"Vintage Coverall" ¥11,000
The world is currently experiencing an unprecedented vintage boom. While various books on vintage clothing have been published, the definitive archive book on vintage coverall jackets, *Vintage Coverall*, will be released on Saturday, July 18.
The author and editor-in-chief is Tsuyoshi Oobuchi, a designer at *Post O’Alls* who has long collected vintage coverall jackets and devoted himself to studying them.
In *Vintage Coverall*, in addition to Mr. Oobuchi’s exquisite collection, the book features contributions from fashion industry figures such as NIGO®, Kaoru Henmi (TIME WORN CLOTHING), and KIRO (KAPITAL), as well as long-established vintage shops such as “SUNTRAP,” “PIGSTY,” and “COSMIC JUMPER,” who provided their prized jackets for the photo shoot. The book features approximately 250 rare coveralls dating from before the 1920s through the 1960s and beyond.
As you can see from the content, most of the pieces featured date from the 1940s or earlier.
Each featured item includes the brand name, era, and source, along with detailed captions written in English.
The issue also features a discussion on coveralls by Mr. Ōbuchi and Atsushi Numajiri (SUNTRAP buyer), looking back on the past 40 years.
Each page features just one or two items—a rather generous selection. The photos are large, so you can see even the finest details.
The first thing that strikes you is the sheer number of very special pieces from before World War II featured in the book. Even just one of these would be amazing, but the book is packed with treasure-trove coveralls from the 1910s, 1920s, and 1930s—items you rarely see on the market.
Since the items are listed in chronological order, starting with the oldest pieces, it’s great that you can trace the evolution of the design details step by step. The product photos are also displayed in large format, allowing you to examine the characteristics of each era and brand, as well as fine details such as the placement of pockets and brand tags.
"Vintage Coverall" is a luxurious compilation of personal collections from some of Japan’s leading collectors, all gathered into a single volume. It’s unlikely that an archive book of this caliber on coveralls will ever be produced again. As this volume is an invaluable resource, it’s a must-have for vintage clothing enthusiasts and collectors alike.
