At "Barneys New York Roppongi," contemporary artistsHARUNA SHIKATAA solo exhibition by [Artist's Name] titled "Discover the Unseen" will be held.
HARUNA SHIKATA is an artist who, under the theme of “Overwrite,” layers fragments of past memories, experiences, information, and emotions to reconstruct them into new perspectives and values. She explains that this is not an act of rewriting or denying the past, but rather a creative process of accepting her accumulated experiences and connecting them to the future.
The starting point for her creative process is the various fragments found in everyday life—such as photographs, text, and drawings—that are linked to her own personal experiences and thoughts. By processing, editing, and layering these elements multiple times, she creates her unique mixed-media works. My technique involves UV inkjet printing onto a support coated with silver foil, then layering a variety of materials on top in multiple layers.
These works, in which different materials and textures overlap, not only visualize the layering of human memory and time but also express the interplay of different timelines, memories, and emotions. In doing so, they create an experience that resonates with each viewer’s individual sensibilities and memories.
You really have to see the overlapping layers in person to appreciate them. Why not stop by and take a look?
