Directed by Takaho Ohashi of “the Apartment.” Gripswanny, deeply rooted in the city, is launching a new label.

The roots of lie in the yellow gloves created during the American frontier era to protect workers’ hands. Its simple yet robust craftsmanship has transcended the realm of work gear and has now gained a following in both urban and outdoor settings.

From that very “Gripswany,” the label “GRIP SWANY 1848”—heralding the start of a new phase—is making its debut.

The label’s director is Takaho Ohashi of the renowned Kichijoji store “the Apartment.” He has a deep understanding of American street culture and vintage outdoor wear, and through “the Apartment’s” in-house brand, *Stabridge*, he has collaborated with *Gripswany* on numerous occasions.

The centerpiece of the collection is a range of leather items accented with “Swanee Yellow”—a color synonymous with leather gloves. While retaining the functional pocket layout designed for handling tools and the rugged, workwear-inspired details, the collection updates the durability honed in harsh work environments to suit modern urban life.

And by incorporating Mr. Ohashi’s unique street-style perspective—in addition to traditional workwear and outdoor wear—the result has a distinct urban and cultural feel.
