The SUKIMONO BOOK, which showcases the appeal of vintage clothing, has released a collaborative book with Capital. They’ve compiled a collection of the ultimate niche item—the “Skapillow”—into a single volume.

Stylist Manabu Harada, who scours vintage clothing stores almost every day in his ongoing quest to explore the depths of vintage fashion and the new discoveries it holds, has released a collaborative book with KAPITAL as part of his niche vintage fashion book series, *The SUKIMONO BOOK*, which he has made his life’s work.

This book focuses on ”Scapilow.”

”Skapilow” refers to pillows and cushions featuring motifs such as tigers and dragons, embroidered with a side-seam sewing machine, that were produced during the same era as the souvenir jackets—commonly known as "Sukajan"—whose prices have skyrocketed in the vintage market in recent years.

An extremely niche item that you hardly ever see in thrift stores these days. I’ve been tirelessly searching for and collecting these “scapillows” and have compiled them all into a single book.

Although we often use the term “Ska pillow” as a general term, there is a vast variety of types. From the familiar embroidered motifs seen on Ska jackets to traditional Japanese designs like Mount Fuji and five-storied pagodas, as well as Viet Cong-inspired motifs and military-style prints, this world is truly rich and diverse. In addition to Ska pillows, this book also features related items such as bedspreads and pajamas.

If you love vintage clothing, you’re sure to find yourself exclaiming, “I didn’t even know such items existed!” This book lets you discover the appeal of vintage clothing—it’s not just about being old or rare.
