Skateboarding has now leapt out of the sports category and has had a tremendous impact on the fashion scene as well. An art show "LOVE+GUTS," featuring legendary skaters who have made their mark on the history of skateboarding, will be held for the first time in Japan.
This event was started in 2005 by legends such as Pat Noho, Steve Olson, and Lance Mountain, who are brilliant in the skate scene. With the theme of expressing skateboarding as an art form, the event has been held throughout the United States, Europe, Brazil, Chile, Australia, and New Zealand.
The first exhibition in Japan will feature two cities, Tokyo and Shizuoka. As a preview exhibition, the gallery "16 (Sixteen)" in Harajuku will display some of the works and host a talk show by Taku Takemura, the curator of "Love and Guts," and photographer Taro Hirano. In addition to the art exhibition at the main venue, "bnb GALLERY" in Shizunami, Shizuoka, will hold an opening event on May 19 (Sat), the first day of the event, with a super session and talk show featuring visiting Japanese artists and special guest rider SHOTA KUBO in the skate pool attached to the venue. A talk show is also scheduled.
In addition, to celebrate the event, Taku Takemura will release a book of interviews with the participating artists, "Back Yard Pool," and will also sell a triple collaboration T-shirt designed by Toru Nishiyama of Double Taps, "Love and Guts," "DESCENDANT," and "Herschel Supply," as well as a collection of bags from "INDEPENDENT" and "Herschel Supply. The triple collaboration T-shirts designed by Toru Nishiyama of Double Taps, DESCENDANT, and Herschel Supply, and the bag collection by INDEPENDENT and Herschel Supply will also be available for pre-sale.
Why not visit the venue to admire the art of skateboarding proposed by some of the world's best skaters?
