Since its establishment in 1940, Tendo Woodworks has continued to create beautiful wooden furniture. Its masterpieces, such as the Butterfly Stool, have given shape to the ideas of architects and designers of all kinds.
The collaboration with four creators working in different fields has resulted in the creation of several epoch-making products.
SHAPE OF TENDO: Make it Shape . The four creators who participated in this exhibition titled "SHAPE OF TENDO: SHAPE OF TENDO FORM.
Hirofumi Kiyonaga / Creative Director
Ichiro Yamaguchi/Sakanaction ( Musician )
Kashiyuka/Perfume ( Musician )
Junko Kato / Dentist, Creative Director
Let's take a look at the furniture that embodies each of our ideas and perspectives.
First, Hirofumi Kiyonaga, founder and former head of SOPH. and currently creative director of the J-League.
Seinaga, who is also known as a lover of countless pieces of furniture, worked on a "putter rack.
Mr. Kiyonaga, who is addicted to golf, was having trouble finding a place to put his putter when he practiced putting in his room. . The idea started with the question of whether it would be possible to create a high-quality place to put a putter that would blend in with the living room without feeling out of place.
From the materials used to make the cushion to the angle at which the putter is placed, this is a gem of a product that has been carefully considered throughout.
The high-quality teak wood gives the furniture a somewhat vintage appearance.
The theme of the project was "what I want and what the world doesn't have," and what could be better than that?
Next is Ichiro Yamaguchi of Sakanaction. Mr. Yamaguchi is also a furniture enthusiast, and has recently been focusing on Japanese modern furniture, mainly collecting domestic furniture made between the 1950s and 1970s.
The production of the "YI Stool" was started based on Yamaguchi's love of Japanese modernism.
In order to form a seamless "Y" shape, a technique called "koma-iri" (frame-in), which was established by Tendo Woodworking in the 1950s, was incorporated.
The frames of the "frame holder" are made of solid teak and appear to have an "I" inside the "Y".
In a sense, this stool was inevitable, as it is appropriate for "yamaichi (YI)," a project in which Yamaguchi collaborates with makers to create and disseminate information.
This "Rattan Side Table" was directed by Kashiyuka of Perfume.
In addition to his activities as a musician, he is also a lover of traditional crafts and manufacturing, with a strong interest in the field of craftsmanship.
The table is an ideal solution for two purposes: a place for our cat, Lyon, to stay, and a visually light table made of natural materials.
Its flexible size allows it to fit in a space wherever it is placed. In addition, the kagome-weaved rattan creates a sense of openness while also creating a closed space inside.
The table is simple, easy to use, and harmonizes perfectly with other pieces of furniture, making it both versatile and beautiful.
Lastly, we have Junko Kato, a dentist, model, and creative director with a deep knowledge of interior design and furniture.
This time, the world of architect and furniture designer Junzo Sakakura is updated. The wood for the frame is ebony ( Ebony ) with irregular black and reddish brown stripes, creating depth and texture.
The cushions are upholstered in a uniquely textured white "bouclé" (Elle:KVADRAT/SACHO) for a rich, tactile feel.
The contrast between black and white creates sophistication and successfully modernizes the mood of the masterpiece furniture.
As you can see, this was an emotional project filled with the thoughts and feelings of everyone involved.
