. . not only do you do styling, but you also produce catalogs and direct photo shoots, don't you?
I have been creating looks for brands, casting, and putting together what is needed for a shoot for some time. It wasn't until a few years ago that I consciously wanted to do more directing.
At the time I got sick once in the Corona disaster, I realized that I might not be able to do the kind of work where I had to go and lease outfits every time and take pictures. So I decided that I needed to expand the range of work I could do at home, such as design and branding.
. . you did not give up there, but chose to broaden your scope.
Of course, I love clothes and I like to look at different brands, so I decided to focus my work on "communicating" their appeal. I originally went to school to study interior design, and I had many acquaintances around me who were involved in architecture and interior design, so it was easy for me to consult with them about work other than fashion.
How do you use your time off?
. I go away and travel with my family. But since I love my job, I feel like my off-time is also an input for my work. I take snapshots and do location scouting on my trips (laughs). I think that both on and off the job are connected without any barriers, and that is comfortable for me.
Mr. Kondo, you deal with a lot of information on a daily basis, so what do you think of the "analog life" that Timex promotes?
In the midst of our busy lives, where we are so busy pursuing efficiency, I think I need to take a fresh look at "slowing down to cherish my time, to immerse myself in something and focus on it".
What are you doing to achieve this?
I have been wanting an analog feel for some time and recently replaced my car with a manual car. . The reason is that I can concentrate more on driving, which I like, if it takes more time and effort compared to the convenience of an automatic transmission. . I like vintage clothes and furniture, so I wanted to choose a car that is a little older. After much deliberation, I ended up with a manual car.
Have you ever worn a Timex, a brand that shares your "analog life"?
When I was working at an apparel boutique, I bought and used the "Original Camper" that the store carried at the time. This time I chose the "Iron Man®" which I had always been interested in as a classic, but the body is quite thin and light. . It fits well and feels comfortable on my arm. It's nice to have a design that never changes, isn't it?
Does "Iron Man®" match your everyday attire?
I like American casual, so I wear Levi's denim with a T-shirt and Timberland boots on my feet. I tend to wear standard and basic outfits, so it matches well. Iron Man®" has a retro atmosphere, so I think it is easy to match with old clothes.
. Please tell us what you would like to wear this summer using "Iron Man®".
I think it is cool to wear it casually as an accent to a simple outfit of a T-shirt and shorts. They are also great for active scenes such as riding bicycles and motorcycles.
