A tournament for beginners and experts alike.
The "1st Boogie Woogie Bakumon" was held on June 29, ( Sat. )! Bakumon" for short. The event was co-hosted by Daiwa, the world's leading fishing company, and "Before You Wake Up," a media company that proposes a rich lifestyle inspired by fishing. a media company that proposes an affluent lifestyle inspired by fishing. The event was held at Kameyama Lake in Kimitsu City, Chiba Prefecture. It is one of the major lakes in the Kanto region, and is a proven lake where bass anglers dream of catching "rokumaru," black bass over 60 cm in length. For the tournament, we asked "Nomura Boat" to provide us with a rental boat. Nomura Boat is a boat shop that is trusted by professionals and is very understanding and supportive of tournaments and events like this, and we are always grateful to them.
Thirty people participated in the event. The participants included those who enjoy bass fishing on a regular basis, as well as those who were fishing for the first time on this day. HOUYHNHNM FISHING Club Director Ishii explained the reason for holding the "Bakumon" event.
Ishii: HOUYHNHNM's FISHING CLUB was formed as a place to connect and communicate with various people through fishing. Fishing Club was formed as a place to communicate with various people through fishing. We have been inviting people from all over the world to join us in fishing, but we decided to hold this tournament because we wanted to create a larger circle of friends. But I wanted to make a bigger circle, so I decided to hold a tournament.
Even though it is a tournament, the theme of HOUYHNHNM's FISHING CLUB is "fun and enjoyable chill-out". The rules were set up so that even beginners could enjoy the event, rather than just pursuing the size of the fish.
First, the boat for a pair of two anglers is a 10-foot hand-controlled boat that can be rented at "Nomura Boat" without requiring a marine vessel license. Although foot-controlled boats are more popular for bass fishing, we limited ourselves to hand-controlled boats because of the difference in speed caused by the voltage of the electric motor and the fact that some people do not have an electric motor or a marine license when they bring in a foot-controlled boat.
We also added a twist to the awards. While all anglers are aiming for the "Daiwa Prize," which is awarded to the top three anglers who catch the largest bass, we have also established the "Bakumon Prize," which is awarded to the angler who catches the most bass regardless of size. This way, even those who have never caught a largemouth bass can aim for a prize by catching a few.
HOUYHNHNM's has also prepared unique awards such as the "BEFORE YOU WAKE UP Award" for the size of non-bass fish targeted, the so-called "outcasts," and the "HOUYHNHNM Fishing Club Award" for the most stylish fishing coordination among the contestants, chosen at HOUYHNHNM's sole discretion. Club Award" to the contestant with the most fashionable fishing outfit, chosen by Huinamu at its sole discretion. Once a bass is caught, the length of the bass will be measured with a measuring tape distributed to the contestants, and a picture taken with the "BAKUMON" sticker will be sent to the group line.
There are no lure bindings or measurement size limits, just rules to let people enjoy fishing. Ichikawa, one of the organizers and editor-in-chief of "BEFORE YOU WAKE UP," explained it this way.
Ichikawa: We wanted everyone to enjoy the fishing itself, so we came up with a prize that was not just about the catch. In the discussions leading up to the event, we did not discuss it, but there was a common understanding between Daiwa, HOUYHNHNM, and the BEFORE YOU WAKE UP FISHING CLUB that we wanted to make the tournament enjoyable for all who participated.
