ARC'TERYX SHINJUKU

The more you know about Arc'teryx, the more you like it.

From full-fledged outdoor use to street use. ARC'TERYX" continues to attract many people with its sophisticated design and functionality designed for use in the field. Born in Vancouver, Canada, the brand has gained worldwide support in recent years. Through an interview with Ken Takagi, who is in charge of the brand in Japan, we will reveal the brand's present and future image, as well as the full picture of the new flagship store in Shinjuku, Tokyo.

The people inside talk about the reasons for their support.

- Arc'teryx has always been very popular, but I have the impression that its support base has expanded even further in the past few years. Is this true not only in Japan but also overseas?

Ken Takagi / Arc'teryx Brand Head

Takagi:Arcteryx's business is doing very well globally. Growth in the Asia-Pacific region has been particularly strong, exceeding that of North America and Europe, including our home market of Canada.

- Mr. Takagi, what do you see as the reason for Arc'teryx's popularity?

Takagi:Uncompromising commitment to craftsmanship and high quality of products. That's what it's all about, isn't it? Of course, Arc'teryx has its own brand worldview, which is unique. However, no matter how much effort is put into branding and promotion, if the quality of the products is low, people will not pay attention to it.

Japanese customers are more discerning and particular about things than most people in the world, and I believe that Arc'teryx has a high level of quality that satisfies Japanese customers. I feel that this is the reason why Arc'teryx is so well supported by Japanese customers. I myself have been involved with this brand for many years now, and I have never wavered in my commitment to manufacturing.

Another reason is that they do not offer any sales or discounts. The same product is sold in the same place, but the price is different today and tomorrow. When you think about it, it is strange, isn't it? As a consumer myself, I have always wondered about this, and I believe that not discounting is one of the reasons why Arc'teryx continues to maintain its brand value.

- Recently, we often see young people wearing Arc'teryx shell jackets and knit caps on the streets. What do you think is the reason for this?

Takagi:I think the influence of "BEAMS" and "Oshman's" and other stores that we do business with is significant. These stores have a wide reach among highly sensitive young people, which is difficult for us brands to reach.

Especially, BEAMS is a special presence for Arc'teryx. We have been collaborating with them for many years, but there are very few cases of collaboration with a specific store, even globally. We are able to do this because of the strong relationship we have cultivated over the years.
