Over the past few years, the landscape of dance in Japan has changed dramatically.
First and foremost are the introduction of breakdancing as a required subject in compulsory education and its inclusion as an Olympic sport... And the hottest topic right now—one whose future development we’re eagerly anticipating—is the professional dance league known as “D.LEAGUE.”
The “D.LEAGUE” is a competition in which multiple teams composed of professional dancers regularly perform elaborate "showcases"—featuring original music, choreography, staging, and costumes—to compete in terms of expressiveness, polish, and originality. The league, which began with nine teams in its inaugural year, now consists of 16 teams.
In the ever-evolving "D.LEAGUE," a new team is about to be born. That team is the professional dance team "BREXA EDGE."
The director is akihic☆彡 (Akihiko), a talented dancer and artist who began dancing at the age of 12 and has won numerous dance competitions. Upon assuming this role, he commented as follows:
I am pleased to announce that I will be taking on the role of Director of "BREXA EDGE" starting with the D.LEAGUE 2026-27 season. First and foremost, I would like to express my sincere gratitude for being given this opportunity. I have been involved with the team as a director since the very beginning of the D.LEAGUE, and I am deeply honored to have been given the chance to take on this challenge once again.
Throughout my career as a dancer and creator, I have had the opportunity to gain a wealth of experience in a variety of settings. I intend to bring all of that experience to this team.
As the name BREXA EDGE suggests, we aim to break down boundaries and pursue a form of expression that goes beyond conventional limits—an expression with true “EDGE.” Above all, we hope to use this league to expand the possibilities of dance, create a team full of dreams, and help the dancers who will shape the future shine. We know this won’t be an easy path. Nevertheless, we look forward to taking on this challenge with genuine enthusiasm. Please look forward to the future of BREXA EDGE. In addition, to mark the launch of the new team, we have launched “JOURNEY TO THE EDGE,” an open audition project designed to discover the most promising talent from across Japan and provide career development opportunities for dancers aspiring to become professional athletes.
