Summer Memories Through Art and BMX. HIDDEN CHAMPION is hosting a group exhibition at GASBON in Yamanashi.

When people think of summer vacation, many may picture getting away from the city to spend time in nature. This summer in Yamanashi, a group exhibition featuring art, BMX, and music will be held.

The event is organized by “HIDDEN CHAMPION,” a group that promotes street culture, including art, skateboarding, BMX, and music. They will be hosting “HIDDEN at GASBON” at “GASBON METABOLISM” in Hokuto City.

The exhibition will feature 19 artists with deep ties to “HIDDEN CHAMPION.” Their works will be displayed together on a single wall, creating an exhibition space where each artist’s unique style resonates with the others.

There was a specific catalyst for this exhibition. It was the “HIDDEN KIOSK,” created in 2023 for the 20th-anniversary event of “HIDDEN CHAMPION.” Designed as a mobile shop—a small hut for selling books and miscellaneous goods—it has continued to be used in various locations even after the event concluded.

In August 2025, it was reinstalled at the “SAI” gallery in “MIYASHITA PARK” in Shibuya, Tokyo. When I consulted the representative of “GASBON METABOLISM” about where to store it afterward, they readily agreed to host it, and the conversation developed from there, leading to this group show.

The reason “HIDDEN CHAMPION” is holding events in these locations stems from the activities it has been carrying out in various regions. During the “DISCOVERY TOUR,” which visited eight cities nationwide during the COVID-19 pandemic, the organization combined art exhibitions with BMX jam sessions. Traveling from Tokyo to various regions to encounter the local people and culture—the “HIDDEN at GASBON” event carries on the spirit of the “DISCOVERY TOUR.”

The venue, “GASBON METABOLISM,” is a space surrounded by nature. Our goal there is to create a space that’s a little different from the typical “white cube” exhibition, where artworks are neatly arranged. The theme is “Summer Vacation with Friends.” While the artworks are arranged randomly, each piece’s individual character remains distinct. Visitors will not only view the art but also ride BMX bikes, listen to music, and enjoy meals. We’re creating an exhibition that encompasses the time people spend together as well.

In addition, an opening event will be held on Saturday, August 22, at “SAMPO Backyard” and “GASBON METABOLISM.” We are also planning an opening party at “MANGOSTEEN HOKUTO.”

"HIDDEN at GASBON" will be held from Friday, August 21, through Monday, September 7. Why not get away from Tokyo for a bit and enjoy a summer experience where art, BMX, and music come together?
