When it comes to Nordic sneakers, Kalf is the name to know. We’re reissuing retro running shoes from the ’80s.

While Scandinavia is best known for its furniture, it’s also home to fashion and sports brands. When it comes to sneakers, there’s KARHU, which was founded in Finland in 1916.

While the brand offers both running shoes and lifestyle items, this time they’re reissuing the “FULCRUM STAR,” which debuted in 1987, from their lifestyle collection. Available in the original colorway, it’s now on sale at “KARHU TOKYO” and the official online store.

Featuring bold, ’80s-inspired colors that give it a retro look, the “FULCRUM STAR” was developed as a marathon shoe for paved roads and is the first model from to incorporate “Fulcrum” technology. This reissue faithfully recreates the original colors as they appeared back then, and is available in a total of four colors.

"Fulcrum"—which also serves as the inspiration for the shoe's name—is a proprietary technology developed by in which an inverted triangular component embedded in the midsole acts as a fulcrum, converting the energy generated upon landing into forward propulsion. This model is designed to deliver both comfort and superior running performance.

We’re not just looking back nostalgically at archives from 40 years ago. With its vibrant colors and unique technology, the “FULCRUM STAR” seems like it would blend seamlessly into today’s fashion.
