Hender Scheme, known for its meticulous and profound craftsmanship, never ceases to surprise us with its choice of collaboration partners.
The collaboration announced this time is with the Finnish furniture brand Artek. What both share is an approach that respects the inherent character of the materials themselves.
This collection, which focuses on Finnish birch wood and vegetable-tanned leather, highlights the way each material ages over time. By combining natural materials that age at different rates, the designers aimed to create products that evolve alongside the user’s lifestyle.
Artek + Hender Scheme Stool 60 ¥80,300
First, I’d like to introduce the “Stool 60” and “Table 90C,” designed by Alvar Aalto in 1933. The seats and tabletops are upholstered in vegetable-tanned leather, and the warmth of the leather—combined with these masterpieces of woodworking—gives even these familiar forms a fresh new look.
Artek + Hender Scheme Table 90C ¥ 173,800
Hender Scheme + Artek Stool 60: ¥14,300 (3 pcs), ¥18,700 (4 pcs)
Among these, the “leather shoes” designed to fit over the legs of stools and tables really catch the eye. These products were created by the leather shoe brand after reimagining furniture from the perspective of shoemaking.
Not only does it serve a practical purpose—protecting the floor from scratches—but isn’t the very idea of putting shoes on furniture just so humorous?
In addition, Aalto’s iconic “Pendant A330” lighting fixture features a vegetable-tanned leather shade—replacing the traditional brass shade—which is molded using a combination of wet-forming techniques and 3D printing.
Artek + Hender Scheme Pendant Light A330 ¥ 275,000
It has been transformed into a light fixture that lets you enjoy the rich patina of the leather, which deepens over time, along with its soft glow.
Hender Scheme + Artek Clock ¥ 30,800
In addition, the collection includes clocks, coasters, and keychains based on the organic form of the “Lehtie Plant Pot A,” designed by Aino Aalto.
Hender Scheme + Artek Coaster ¥7,700
Hender Scheme + Artek Key Holder ¥ 14,300
The design of has been adapted from the scale of furniture to small, everyday objects.
A design is not complete the moment it is created; rather, it gradually approaches completion through use. This collaboration, in which the two creators’ shared philosophy on craftsmanship quietly converged through their choice of materials, will be released on Saturday, October 10, 2026.
It is available at "Artek Helsinki" and "Artek Tokyo"—the flagship stores of —as well as at stores and select retailers around the world.
