What Is a “Sleeping Jacket” (Not Just Pajamas)? Dreamlike creations brimming with the maker’s attention to detail have been completed.

When I looked up “jacket” in a fashion dictionary, I found the following entry.

"It is said that the word 'jacket' (jaquette) in French, which refers to a smaller version of the medieval men's tunic known as a 'jacque,' is the etymological origin of the term. Historically, until the early modern period, long, coat-style garments such as the jupon and the habit were the norm, and short jackets were primarily worn by the working class; however, by the 19th century, the jacket—in its modern sense—had become an integral part of both men’s and women’s wardrobes.”

Clothing rooted in our daily lives has evolved over the course of its approximately 200-year history; what was once a symbol of the working class has now become a part of fashion.

It was Tetsuaki Miyamoto who deliberately chose this as the brand name. While running the showroom and store “Branded Tokyo,” he launched 〈JACKET〉 in 2020, a brand that produces clothing on an irregular basis.

"Sleeping Jacket," the focus of this article, is the brand's new release announced this month.

The key to the production was a wool-linen satin fabric from Bishu. It is said that by using one of the few remaining Schönherr looms to blend the classic look of wool with the casual feel of linen, a fabric with natural volume and a three-dimensional texture was created.

The “Sleeping Jacket” is a bomber-style jacket that’s a cross between a shirt and a jacket. As the name suggests, it’s designed to be as comfortable to wear as pajamas.

And now, we’re introducing a pair of pants to go with this jacket. They’re a custom-made pair from 〈Product Twelve〉.

This piece is based on 〈Product Twelve〉’s signature “Sleeping Trousers” and is crafted using the same fabric as the jacket, with the hem styled as a single-hem design.

The “Sleeping Jacket,” which blurs the line between a shirt and a jacket, and the “Sleeping Trousers,” which blurs the line between pajamas and slacks. Although they take different approaches, they share the same goal—which is precisely why they come together to form a well-balanced ensemble.

These order-taking events will be held throughout Japan and in South Korea.

At this order event, you’ll be able to pick up jackets and pants and try them on. At some venues, gelatin silver prints by photographer Kazutake Sugawara—who created the visuals for this collection—will also be on display.
