SANDERS, a long-established leather shoe manufacturer based in Northampton, England—the “shoe capital of the world”—has released a new collection created in collaboration with “The Old Curiosity Shop,” a London-based shoe workshop run by Daitā Kimura.
Mr. Kimura moved to the United Kingdom in 1988, where he studied shoe design at Cordwainers College and has been crafting handmade shoes ever since. In 1994, he opened “The Old Curiosity Shop”—a shop and workshop located in a historic London building and named after the character in Charles Dickens’ novel—where he has been crafting handmade shoes. In addition to creating runway shoes for numerous designer brands, he expresses his unique aesthetic sensibility through his own shoemaking.

The last—the wooden form that serves as the foundation—has a major influence on a shoe’s appearance and comfort. Even shoes made from the same leather using the same manufacturing process will have a different visual impression and feel when you slip them on if the last is different. For this collection, Mr. Kimura designed the lasts. Only the shoemaking expertise of *Sanders*, backed by over 150 years of history, can bring Mr. Kimura’s original designs to life as actual shoes.
