Tokyo has it all.
That is not an exaggeration, but rather a wide variety of all kinds of consumer activities, including goods, food, and experiences, are available in a small area. Especially in the field of fashion, from high fashion to street, vintage clothing to gal brands, it is rare to find something you can't find.
In these times, Fukuoka's unique ecosystem may be a "new hope" for the future.ON AIR," among others.KIYONAGA & CO.", "FROM WHERE I STAND," and "NO COFFEEThere are, indeed, stores and goods that can only be found in Fukuoka.
."Union Soda (UNIONSODA)." is a rental space located at the center of such an ecosystem. While being a receptacle for a variety of projects and events, it regularly hosts spontaneous exhibitions and promotes metabolism while connecting with the outside world.
This year's event, "Season's Greetings 2017-18 Winter," was held under the guidance of T-shirt brand Who's Making (WHO'sMAKING). . It focuses on two artists, Misaki TANAKA and YUKI HORIMOTO.
Misaki Tanaka is an illustrator with an outstanding following, especially on Instagram. She draws erotic illustrations with soft, nostalgic lines.
Although they are two-dimensional illustrations, they focus on "moments" that evoke a back-and-forth time line, and thereby create a rich and fertile narrative. . Behind the catchy impression, a deep knowledge of expression is evident.
The works on display and for sale are the latest works she has painted within the last six months. The lineup includes original paintings that are usually rarely sold, and were only first published on Instagram.
YUKI HORIMOTO, an artist who works on everything from graphics to illustrations, will exhibit a large body of work spanning approximately 50 pieces created between 2012 and the present.
You can fully appreciate the dramatic impact of the homage, as well as the unfathomable depths that exist beyond it.
Various "faces" that show the influence of surrealism. Somewhat scary, cute, and surreal . This work allows the viewer to experience complex sensations at the same time.
Both artists have been refining their own unique styles of expression and have garnered a large number of fans. I felt that the space created by these two artists, who share a retro style, could be viewed as a boy's side/girl's side.
The venue will be filled with not only artworks but also a variety of goods.
Books, key chains, and badges are all available. The tote bag was made just for this event.
And, of course, there's "Foods Making.Specially produced T-shirtstoo. When it was first sold at 1LDK, it sold out immediately, and sizes began running out early here as well.
Of course, the first thing that catches the eye is the catchy embroidery, but the T-shirt itself is also packed with attention to detail. The neck ribs are not too thick, and the fabric is smooth yet resilient cotton. It is more like a cut-and-sewn than a T-shirt. This is a piece that suits adults.
We did not introduce any new technology, but rather developed an unprecedented fabric together with textile designers and craftsmen by devising a combination of things that can be done in the ordinary way. I don't really like wearing conventional bodies, and through trial and error, we arrived at a subtle salient point that can be worn alone or as an inner layer for a jacket or shirt.
Foods Making" says, " . . exquisite, unobtrusive attention to detail .
The quality of the embroidery is also noteworthy. The elaborate finish does not lose the delicate touch of the illustration, and even the checkered pattern on the lining of the coat is beautifully rendered.
. "I went back and forth with the embroiderer to perfect the work. I was sometimes worried that the cost of the punch (embroidery plate) would be too high (laughs), but he was very particular about the details and I think we came up with a very good product.
Additional T-shirts will be available for purchase. 1LDK" is accepting reservations until December 24, so be sure to check it out.
On the day of the event, there were so many people in attendance. The sight of customers waiting to enjoy their portraits was also impressive.
The exhibit is on view through Sunday, December 24. If you are in the area, please visit the exhibition. It takes only 1 hour and 30 minutes from Haneda Airport. It is well worth a quick visit on a moment's notice.
