GU and UNDERCOVER. GU and UNDERCOVER, although in different fields, have advanced Japanese fashion by offering fashion that can be enjoyed casually by all, and by creating original worldviews and creations.
The first time these two collaborated was in 2021. Initially welcomed with surprise, the relationship is now a honeymoon, with three team-ups underway.
And now, the long-awaited fourth collaborative collection will be launched. The concept is "KOSMIK/NOISE," the same as the third collection. Mr. Jun Takahashi explains the meaning behind these words.
Since the main idea is to twist universal design in an "Undercover" style, we thought there was no need to create a new theme for each exhibition. KOSMIK/NOISE" means "comfortable noise in daily life. We named the product "KOSMIK/NOISE" so that wearing this product in daily life will create a pleasant stimulus. (Shun Takahashi)
By taking basic items from "g.u." and incorporating "noise" into them, such as convertible designs and inside-out designs, we have created a series of products that are unlikely to be seen in the marketplace.
The lineup includes outerwear, tops, bottoms, and goods, with a total of 20 models in a wide variety of styles. Here is an overview of the collection, picking up some of HOUYHNHNM's most noteworthy items.
MA-1 type blousons and army coats adopt the convertible design often seen in Undercover's inline line. The former can be transformed into a vest by removing the sleeves, while the latter can be transformed into a blouson with a zipper at the waist, creating a gimmicky finish.
One of the new challenges," says Jun Takahashi, "in this collaboration is a stadium jacket and a track jacket. . The shape itself is simple, but the use of color and graphics is superb. These items are casual wear that blends in with everyday life, but will lift your spirits when you put on the sleeves.
The lineup also includes a pair of track pants, which can be worn as a set-up. The playful tapes on the sides wipe out the dowdy look of the pants, making them a stylish pair of track pants that is distinctly different from the so-called "normal" track pants.
This cardigan expresses a unique knitting pattern in low gauge. The combination of a knit item and a zip, which seems to have an uncomfortable feel, is truly "NOISE. This is a piece that shows off the editorial skills typical of "UNDERCOVER.
This parka is another item that embodies the "KOSMIK/NOISE" concept. At first glance, it may look like an ordinary parka, but when you look at the details, you will notice that the armholes have been cut off, and the inside-out seam allowance, which would normally be on the inside, has been turned inside out, creating a design that looks ordinary but is anything but ordinary.
A triple collaboration featuring "The Wizard of Oz" was also realized. The g.u. brand's signature heavyweight sweatshirts and T-shirts are now available in Undercover's signature graphic design. Incidentally, Undercover once used the soundtrack from the film as background music for its shows, so this item is sure to be a hit with fans of the past who know the history of the film.
The baggy silhouette denim pants also feature a convertible design. They can also be worn as below-the-knee shorts, making them a pair that can be enjoyed across the seasons. The fabric has been given a moderate wash finish to combine the trendy look with the "Undercover" style.
Other items include T-shirts and knitwear with "KOSMIC NOISE" on them, ombre check pants, iconic leather shoes with a two-tiered heel, and even knit caps, socks, and other accessories.
I want people to enjoy these items as a small stimulus in their daily lives," says Mr. Jun Takahashi. As Mr. Jun Takahashi says, "I want you to enjoy the small stimulation in your daily life," each item is a daily wear with an exquisite twist.
The product will go on sale at g.u. stores nationwide and online from September 27 (Fri.).
