How to see - the way of seeing things

Text: Takahiro Goko

How do you usually shop? Do you usually buy things by gathering information on the Internet, comparing and examining them? For example, lights and objects you find at flea markets that are one-of-a-kind and add a touch of color to your life. I am not saying that impulse buying is a good idea, but it might be a good idea to buy things that are more true to your own sensibilities and feelings. Here, Goko-san, who collects interior goods, vintage items, crafts, and local toys from all over the world, without limiting the genre, age, or region, and with her own unique sensibility, tells us how she sees and enjoys things.

Vol. 17 The Tateyama Protector.

When I went to an antique market and suddenly touched some paper goods, I found a wonderful old woodblock-printed talisman, which led me to stop by temples and look at talismans and other objects when I went to the countryside.

Among them, my best one so far is the Tateyama talisman of Ashikura Oyama Shrine in Toyama Prefecture. This is the only place where the New Year is celebrated. The process of getting this charm is also very special. Above all, Tateyama is a mystical place where you can feel the atmosphere and power.

The color of this year's talismans was wonderful, with the green ones inspired by the bounty of the mountains. I think the fire tag is also the best in Japan as well.

Even if the house is rented, it is good enough to put up a protective talisman. Fire precautions should be placed in the kitchen and other areas around the fire, and Tateyama talismans should be placed at the front door or high up in the living room.
