Travel with Herschel Supply Travel with Herschel Supply around Tokyo.

Herschel Supply is a Canadian bag brand. By filtering various tastes such as sports, business, outdoor, and fashion through their own unique filter, they have created a series of products with a good balance of function and design. We selected nine of these products and toured Tokyo with an American traveler majoring in architecture. Let's start the Huynem-style tour of Tokyo!

DAY 1

Backpack (TRAIL BARLOW) ¥16,800+TAX H49.5×W26.5×D16.5cm 23ℓ

Arriving at Narita Airport and then taking the Keisei Skyliner to Ueno, I took a trolley bag, one of the most popular hard-shell trolley bags in the TRAVEL series, with the trolley bag in tow. A tough but lightweight suitcase is a good companion for a long trip. A heavy suitcase is tiring. On my back, I chose a bagpack from the "Trail Collection," a new line starting this fall/winter. Since it is based on an outdoor theme, it is loaded with specs, such as water repellency and a rain cover. It is simple and modern, so of course it fits in well with town use.

〜March Ecute Bansebashi

Backpack (TRAIL MAMMOTH) ¥13800+TAX H46×W24×D18㎝,18ℓ

The first sightseeing stop is at March Ecute Bansebashi. With a cup of coffee in one hand, we took a look at the wall that reminds us of the history of the railroad. For a backpack, we selected one from the "Trail Collection," a new line with an outdoor theme. The water-repellent nylon body is covered with a ripstop rain cover, so it will not be affected by a little bit of rain. Both sides have mesh pockets with straps, so water bottles and other items can be quickly accessed.

~Guest House

Duffle bag (TRAIL GORGE) ¥13,800+TAX H29×W52×D28㎝,38ℓ
Bag small (CHAPTER) ¥4,500+TAX H15xW24xD11.5㎝,5ℓ

We went to a guesthouse, which is rumored to be one after another being created in Tokyo. The rooms are inexpensive but clean, and the design is interesting. The duffel bag taken out of the trolley bag is an interpretation of the outdoors in the "Herschel" style. It has a water-repellent nylon body, a watertight zip, and a shoe case on one side that can hold another pair of running shoes or formal shoes, making it perfect for traveling. The interior has a simple structure with no dividers, and the capacity is sufficient for a 2- to 3-night trip. Although it is not a replacement for a divider, "CHAPTER," which is also a perfect amenity case, is also a must-have travel companion.

DAY 2
~ Imperial Palace

Backpack (WINLAW) ¥11,800+TAX H43×30W×14D 22ℓ
Cap (STRIDE GLENDALE) ¥7,200+TAX

On the second day, we went sightseeing in good spirits. First, we visited the Imperial Palace, as promised. This backpack, "Winlaw," has a minimalist look that is perfect for any occasion. It is also made of tough Cordura fabric, so you can use it hard. The one-tone color scheme, including the tag, and the leather zipper tabs give it a luxurious feel. Details are important.

〜Akihabara Electric Town

3-way bag (TRAIL BRITANNIA) ¥12800+TAX H30.5×W40.5×D13㎝,15ℓ

The Electric Town, where all kinds of electrical parts line the stalls, is fun just to look at. The bag on my back is a 3-way bag, which can be carried by hand, on the shoulder, or as a bagpack. The versatility of being able to change the way you carry the bag according to your mood or purpose is a welcome feature. The nylon body has a water-repellent function, and the PC sleeve inside is also convenient.

~ Cycling

Hip bag (SEVENTEEN) ¥4500+TAX 17H×25W×8D 3.5L

(STRIDE GLENDALE) cap ¥7,200+TAX, (LOHRUM) shirt ¥22,000+TAX (Alpha PR 03-5413-3546), (Willy Chavarria) cut and sewn ¥18,000+TAX (Jetton Showroom 03- 6804-1970), (Head Maynard) remake denim ¥31,000+TAX (Reshop 03-5413-4714), (Huff) sneakers ¥31,000+TAX (Huff). Head Maynard remake denim ¥31,000+TAX (reshop 03-5413-4714), Huff sneakers ¥15,000+TAX (Huff Japan 0548-24-1250)

I want to see Tokyo from the residents' point of view, so I use a shared cycling bicycle instead of the subway to get around. It is very convenient because you can drop off your bike at any station. When riding a bicycle, you move, so a hip bag that doesn't get in the way is very useful. In addition to the main compartment, a sub-pocket is also attached, so the capacity is much larger than it looks.

DAY 3
~Museum~.

Bag pack (SURPLUS DAWSON) ¥13,800+TAX H42.5xW28.5xD16cm,20.5ℓ

I went to the Le Corbusier-designed "National Museum of Western Art," which was registered as a World Heritage site in July. We came here not to see the museum's exhibits, but to see the outside of the building. The bag on my back is the "Surplus Collection," inspired by 1960s U.S. military tactical gear. Based on the "DAWSON," this military-inspired model is made of thick herringbone twill and features nickel hardware, faithfully reproducing the fabrics of the era. The inner lining uses a tiger camo liner and the modern look typical of "Herschel" is also heartwarming.

~Jimbocho Used Bookstore

Bag pack (ASPECT NELSON) ¥11,800+TAX 47H×31W×14D 19ℓ

In search of architecture books, I went to Jimbocho, a town of old books called the best in the world. The lineup of books ranges from academic to visual books. Unlike in the U.S., you can't sit down to read, which is a bit of a pain, but when in Rome, do as the Romans do. The bags have an attractive sporty look and minimalist design that fits well in Tokyo. The zipper is a watertight zip.

~ Shrine

Bag pack (BHW Collection DAYTON)¥27,800+TAX H45.5xW31xD15㎝,19ℓ

(Crepuscule) knit ¥24,000+tax (Overriver 03-6434-9494), denim ¥27,500+tax (Auguste Presentation)F.I.T.(M.I.U. 03-5457-2166), shoes ¥46,000+tax (M.I.U. 03-5457-2166)

The last stop of the trip was a shrine that was "just like Japan. I love the quiet atmosphere. The ritual of "2 bow, 2 clap, 1 bow" makes me feel a little more spiritual and solemn. The bagpacks are from a series called "Apex Knit," a fresh new bag with a knit structure made of high-strength yarn. Its features are stretchy and lightweight, yet tough, and I like its elegant design, perfect for town use.

Travel is good. Tokyo's cities and different cultures are very stimulating, and I enjoy everything I see. Like Tokyo, I would like to create architecture that incorporates new things, but whose design can be enjoyed by all.
