How did you come to make the M-45 trousers?
Konno: The M-45 is an item that I myself wear often. I have been interested in thicker pants for a while now, and recently I have been paying attention to them again. You also wear them a lot, don't you, Akamine?
Yuuki Akamine ("Yuuki"): The items piled up here are our personal belongings. I love them too. I keep finding pants that fit my body type and keep buying more.

What kind of item are M-45 trousers?
Yuuki: These are the field trousers of the U.S. Army, which were created in the latter half of World War II. Anyway, the silhouette is characterized by its thickness.
Konno: You don't see them at all these days.
Yuuki: Compared to M-65s and baker pants, we don't see them at all anymore.
Konno: It is true that Baker is seen more often. I have always wanted to make an M-45 someday. When I checked Akamine's many personal belongings, I found that each of them had individual differences, and I thought it would be interesting to design a piece while skillfully editing those differences.

You are trying to create an ideal M-45 while retaining the details that you like.
Konno: That's right. Nexus Seven has been working with Dickies for a long time, and I thought we could do something in the form of a triple collaboration. I also wanted to develop a women's line as well.
Reiko Akamine ("Reiko"): I like this item myself, and in fact I am wearing it today. The silhouette is thick, but the waist fits my body perfectly. I also like the texture of the fabric, which has a depth to it, and it has a different appeal from the current military pants.
I see you also have small sizes.
Yuuki: I think they were worn by relatively small Asian people.

I think there are items such as M-41 and M-43, but did the silhouette change as the period progressed?
Konno: The M-45 is characterized by its bold and rugged silhouette from the hip area to the hem, and that's what makes it cool.
Yuuki: They have a unique mood not found in other military pants.

Konno: Also, the adjuster tabs at the hem are unique. It is a detail to allow for boot twinning, but I am sure it is a transition due to changes in equipment over the years.

Yuuki: It was basically worn during the cold season, so the silhouette was thickened in order to wear wool items inside. This is a feature that can be used for utility purposes. This led to the M-65 later on, and as an intermediate step, there are transitional M-45s with cargo pockets added later.
The M-65 has a zipper fly on the front, whereas this era still has a button fly. I feel the difference in such details also reflects the age of the garment.

Konno: Yes, that's right. Looking at M-45s from that time, there are some that use star-type buttons, buttons made of urea resin, and buttons made of a material called Bakelite. So this time, I happened to find a large number of dead stock Bakelite buttons, and I felt like I was able to connect the dots within myself.
Yuuki: I am very happy that we were able to use Bakelite buttons this time. It is a very hard material, so now it is used as a construction material. It is so hard that diamond cutters are used when processing it, and it is getting further and further away from being used as a clothing material. It has more depth and atmosphere than ordinary plastic. It is something we would never have been able to find on our own, so I am very proud of Mr. Konno.
