Mr. Nakano, Mr. Araki, and Mr. Yoneyama, how was your experience with SKAGEN?
Denmark is known as the happiest country in the world, and has become a hot topic in recent years for proposing the "Hygge lifestyle" that is becoming popular in Europe. SKAGEN, a brand born in Denmark with such a rich way of thinking, has introduced a hybrid smartwatch with a minimalist design that is unique to the Scandinavian brand. We asked three people of different occupations and ages to try out the watch to get a sense of its appeal and the variety of functions that make everyday life richer than ever before.
Takashi Nakano (Owner of "Nostos Books" , President of Neu Co.)
. something that will inevitably accompany our lives.
. How did you start Nostos Books, Mr. Nakano?
NakanoThe space behind the bookstore serves as my office. Originally, I opened the store to create a kind of shared office space where I could work and gather with my freelance colleagues. I myself used to work as a designer, so I had a lot of old books that I used as reference material, and I started the store with the manager, Ishii (Rika).
What is the concept behind the book selection at Nostos Books?
Nakano. I collect new and used books from Japan and abroad under the theme of "Japanese Art. Since I am a designer myself, there may be a large number of art books and photography collections in particular. I hope to convey the history and genealogy of Japanese art through the various books lined up in the store.
If you are an expert in fields such as art and photography, is it design that is important to you when choosing a watch?
NakanoAs with any product, I'm not a fan of decorative things, so I prefer the simple design of Skagen's products.
Mr. Nakano, do you usually wear a watch?
NakanoI used to use a "G-Shock" all through my school years, but recently I've become estranged from it. . Not in a youthful sense, but I sometimes think that a smartphone is all I need.
Unlike conventional watches, the smartwatch from "Skagen" that I actually used has many functions that are linked to a smartphone.
Nakano. it's fascinating to enjoy various functions with this look and feel. For example, it's the same with old books, which are still analog, but they can be a source of new information for those who don't know their contents. I feel that this watch is similar to that feeling.
Were there any features that you found particularly useful for your lifestyle?
NakanoIt would be convenient to be able to press the side button on the watch , to ring the phone. I often lose track of it when I'm in a flurry of activity, so it would be helpful in those situations. . I would also like to use the function to count my steps.
Using a smartwatch may make your everyday life more comfortable.
NakanoSince there are a number of functions that link to the smartphone, I think it will inevitably become a part of our lives.
Are there any books in "Nostos Books" that might be relevant to Skagen's designs?
NakanoIs it "Moonlit Night in a Bag: The Zokei Poetry of Kitazono Katsue," which is a compilation of the works of Kitazono Katsue, a modernist poet of the Taisho era. . It's a book featuring the work of Kitazono, a photographer and poet I like very much. It is a book that condenses the aesthetics of subtraction and gives us a new insight into the concept of poetry. I feel that this aspect of the book has something in common with the design of "SKAGEN" as well.

Yoshiki Araki, Stylist
The best way to think about smartness is to use a smartwatch.
You have been a stylist for more than 10 years.
rough wood. I guess the main reason is that I have always loved fashion. After I became independent, I spent some time away from work and traveled around Europe. During that time, I went to music festivals in England and stayed in London, and I realized once again that as a stylist I wanted to convey a world view that included clothes.
. You started working as a stylist in earnest after returning from abroad, didn't you?
rough woodI work mainly for men's fashion magazines, but recently I have also been working on fashion projects for lifestyle magazines such as "Tarzan.
I know you are usually exposed to different brands, but do you have a preference for watches?
rough woodI like classic designs like the smartwatches from Skagen. Analog-style faces and leather straps are also suitable for mature people in their 20's and 30's. .
If you were styling a smartwatch yourself, what kind of outfits would you suggest?
rough wood. I would be conscious of styling with a sense of comfort, while focusing mainly on loose-fitting items. I would like to propose a coordinated look with a smart watch from "Skagen".
What was your image of "SKAGEN"?
rough wood. in fact, I've borrowed it many times for work. . but I didn't know that there were classic looking smartwatches, and it was a new discovery for me.
What did you think of the "Skagen" smartwatch when you tried it this time?
rough wood. I have recently started going to the gym, so I am glad that it supports the activity tracking feature. For example, I often travel by car for work, so I am now more conscious of walking more than usual by measuring the number of steps I take. Also, I sometimes go abroad on private trips, so I am glad that the system smoothly handles the conversion between local time and Japan time.
I'm sure there will be more situations where it will be useful at work.
rough woodYes, it is. Aside from checking the time, I am sure that as we experiment with more features in the future, we will find them more convenient.
