How did you feel when you tried on the Softshell Light Arctic Parka?
Yoshida: It is lightweight, warm, and feels very smooth through the sleeves, and I thought it was a great garment. At first glance, the design looks like old clothes, which is also attractive from my point of view, but in terms of ease of wear and warmth, I feel that it is packed with technology not found in older products. Once you wear warm outerwear, you can't go back. This naturally leads to more opportunities for easy-to-wear, easy-to-handle items such as this down jacket.
If you seek ease, it becomes difficult to make it work as a fashion item, doesn't it?
Yoshida: It is not too outdoorsy or too technical, and I feel that this is the charm of the "Woolrich Outdoor Label". The brand for which I am the designer sometimes draws inspiration from outdoor wear, but I try to find ways to add a street-wear interpretation to it. In recent years, winters have become relatively warmer, and I feel that a good mix of technical elements and classic design is appropriate for the city.
Do you like classic designs?
Yoshida: Yes, I agree. Classicism is important in fashion, but I think it is also important in the world of food, for example. For example, when you cook rice, it tastes better in an earthenware pot than in a rice cooker, even if the taste is the same. Even if the taste is the same. So I am attracted to things that have that balance.
What was your impression of the Woolrich Outdoor Label?
Yoshida: Woolrich is a long-established brand and has a heavy-duty, masculine impression, but I felt that this label has a certain cuteness to it. That's why it is easy to wear in the city. It has a softness to it, and I think it would be easy for women to wear.
What do you keep in mind in order to successfully incorporate outdoor elements into your outfits?
Yoshida: Have you been to the mountains?" (laughs). (Laughs) So I try not to be too formal. For example, I think it is important to add an urban element somewhere, such as with wool slacks.
The use of color is also wonderful.
Yoshida: I have been interested in brownish colors lately, so I chose a brownish color for my down jacket as well. I have been wearing black or navy for a long time, so maybe I am in the mood to wear a different color. However, if I wear brown all over, it would be too much of an outdoorsy color, so I brought in charcoal for the bottom and knit scarf to create a calm color scheme.
