Everything was new on the street in terms of shape and color.
Timberland was founded in 1973, so a large part of its history is tied to hip-hop culture. Recently, the brand has featured KANDYTOWNcampaign. and there are others. . In Japan, I think that Mr. MURO's presence was significant.
MUROWhen I was young, there was no Timberland store on Fire Street in Shibuya (note: now closed), so the only way to get a Timberland was to buy an imported one from DJ's Choice. I couldn't even find them at outdoor stores. I couldn't even find them at outdoor stores. When I started working at STARRICH on Fire Street, the Timberland store had already opened, but they didn't carry XL clothing sizes, and they didn't have many street-oriented boots. So I did a lot of buying back then (laughs). (Laughs) Many of the girls who worked at the store bought the products when I was working there, so I think that's part of the image of the store.
When did you first wear Timberland boots?
MURO. It was the early 90's. The shape and color of the boots were all new to the street. The style of hip-hop artists in the U.S. at the time, with their earthy outfits and use of neutral colors, was very fresh, and the boots were a great match for that. It could be worn with both military and work clothes.
At that time, your taste in fashion was naturally hip-hop, wasn't it?
MURO: Yes, it was. I loved it. I changed my clothes from one place to another, wearing all kinds of things. Moreover, the environment was the same as in the U.S., and I had no money to buy things, so I had to make do with what I had. That was the peak of my passion for fashion (laughs). (Laughs). I would even mention "Timberland" in my lyrics. It was like it was a part of my personal life.
I was thinking about how to showcase "Timberland.
When did you first become aware of "Timberland" as a brand?
MURO. is it still the Jungle Brothers? On the back cover of the 12-inch "What "U" Waitin' "4"? On the back cover of the 12-inch "What "U" Waitin' "4"?", there is a picture of DJ Sammy B wearing a black outfit and "Super Boot" by "Timberland", and it looks really cool. I didn't know about the "Timberland" brand at the time, but I heard about it from ECD. I heard about it from ECD at Milos Garage. I think ECD was the first person in Japan to wear "Timberland" boots.
Please tell us about your most memorable style in terms of how you adopted the "Timberland" fashion of the time.
MUROI wear these oversized denim shorts from Guess, and I wear them so low on the waist that they look like they are about to fall off (laughs). (Laughs.) Then, I would put them in with my Timberland boots. That was the style of everyone, really. At that time, too, in order to show off the "Timberland," it was important to put the pants in the socks once and let them sag. . It was very difficult to choose the right socks (laughs). (Laughs). That's how much I wanted to show off this item.
Is the "6" Boot" the model you are most attached to?
MURO. Yes, it is. I think I have worn them the most, polished them the most, and I have a lot of feelings about them. . But the best for me is the "Field Boot". After everyone else started wearing the 6" Boot in yellow nubuck, I decided to go with this one. They are mid-cut, easy to put on and take off, and go well with chinos.
The "1978 Hiker" boots that you wore today are not the boots that one would expect from "Timberland," are they?
MURO. they also feel better than the Timber boots I've worn so far. . But the fact that they don't look like Timber boots is also good. I still have the mindset that it is better to be different from others (laughs). (laughs). It's like saying, "Everyone else is DJing on computers, so I'm DJing on vinyl.
I see.
MUROI like old-fashioned things, but I also like things that are fresh and updated, so I have high expectations for the future of "Timberland" as well as the "Vintage Collection" this time.
