Comfortable to wear and featuring a sophisticated design.
—What do you think of that coat Mr. Shō is wearing?
Sho: I really like the washed finish. It's not that crisp, pristine black. The texture is really nice, too.
Kobayashi: It has been treated with a bio-wash finish.
LONG COAT, bio-washed BC111 ¥77,000
Sho: I like that the lining is cotton. Also, it’s quite substantial. I like heavy coats. I think the heavier, the better (laughs). It’s roomy enough that I can layer insulation underneath. It doesn’t have a vent, does it?
Kobayashi: At first glance, it looks like a typical classic coat, but I wanted to make it more casual, so I left out the vents. I made the hem a little wider and adjusted the fit so you can layer clothes underneath. I also gave it a bio-wash to give it a more casual look.
Sho: It feels like it retains a slightly classic vibe while being stripped down to the bare essentials. The fit is spot-on, too. I think it’s a timeless piece you can wear anytime.
Kaita: Wearing a coat really does make you look put-together.
—Mr. Kurita is wearing cargo pants.
Kaita: That's a beautiful silhouette.
Kobayashi: It's based on slacks.
CARGO SLACKS R002 ¥26,500
Kaita: I see. I wear cargo pants all the time, but I’ve never tried a trendy silhouette like this before, so it feels fresh. I realized, “Huh, I can actually pull this off.”
Sho: These sweatpants have a great silhouette, too. They're easy to wear because they don't show your butt from behind. It's also handy that they have a zipper in the front.
SWEAT PANTS Wide-leg Straight GL210 ¥18,500
—The high-neck sweater Mr. Shō is wearing has a washed finish and a nice color.
Kobayashi: This is the first time our brand has applied a wash finish to a knit garment. We wanted to create a piece with depth in the black—one where, when turned inside out, the black remains vivid in some areas while other parts that were only lightly treated peek through.
HIGH NECK KNIT, washed HN99 ¥32,000
Sho: It definitely looks cool with those ribbed details. Is it made of cotton?
Kobayashi: That's right. I personally like clothes that I can wash at home, and I prefer items that are easy to care for, so the knitwear from B.T.M.K. is basically made of cotton.
Sho: I don't like wool because it's itchy, so cotton sweaters are great. The raglan sleeves also make it easy to move my arms.
Kaita: The fabric is nice and thick, too.
Sho: With a high neck, it would probably look good even if you pair it with sweatpants for a casual look.
—This knit polo shirt has a really cool design.
Kaita: Compared to other items, it might give a slightly different impression.
BUTTON-KNIT POLO NP905 ¥30,500
Kobayashi: Since I used to make women’s clothing, I incorporated details you don’t usually see in men’s wear—like buttons at the hem and wide plackets. I made these pieces as an experiment to see if customers would accept them, and they were actually quite well-received. Going forward, I’d like to expand beyond just basic styles and introduce new designs.
Sho: The collar is big and cute. I also like that it doesn't have ribbing. I don't think you often see this design in black.
Kaita: It looks like it'll be fun to layer them, too.
