ELNEST CREATIVE ACTIVITY x GREENable

This is the B-side of Arata Iura! The desire for GREENable collaboration, born from the encounter with Hiruzen.

Arata Iura is an actor and the leader of the brand ELNEST CREATIVE ACTIVITY. In fact, he is an expert on the history and folklore of various regions of Japan, and is a strong fieldworker who has visited many places. This time, Mr. Iura visited Hiruzen in Maniwa City, Okayama Prefecture. Surrounded by mountains, Hiruzen is a place where the art of toadstool crafting has been handed down for hundreds of years. Ernesto Creative Activities decided to collaborate with GREENable, a community brand by Maniwa City, Okayama Prefecture, and Hankyu Hanshin Department Store that proposes a "sustainable lifestyle where people and nature coexist" through products, services, and experiences. The reason why we decided to collaborate with "GREENable" was because of the deep resonance with this region. We asked them about their philosophy of craftsmanship and their desire to learn through local fieldwork, meet the makers, and find new value in materials that deviate from product standards.

ELNEST CREATIVE ACTIVITY x GREENable MOON TEE -for the trails we walk- ¥8,800
This quick-drying body T-shirt has a bold print on the back of a photo taken by Mr. Iura from the summit of Mt. Sanpei. On it is printed "DEVISING SUSTAINABLE HUMAN ACTIVITY, AMIDST BOUNDLESS NATURE." ( Thinking about sustainable human activities in the midst of nature. ) The message is attached to the T-shirt.

--Please tell us about the particulars of the collaborative T-shirts.

Iura: I wanted to climb a mountain when I went to Hiruzen. The mountains that can be seen from the village are the "spiritual mountains" for the local people. We climbed Mt. Sampei, and while climbing, I learned about trail maintenance.

My hobby is mountain climbing, so I have hiked many trails in the mountains. Instead of putting up ropes, we use stones, branches, and fallen trees to guide us naturally. They were able to preserve the mountain with only the materials available in the mountain. I was impressed by their wisdom.

Iura: As we were descending the mountain, we came across a site where they were doing conservation work to maintain the trail. Since we had experienced such a wonderful view and experience, we thought we could do something together to contribute to the conservation efforts, so we decided to make T-shirts using photos of the scenery from the summit. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the trail preservation efforts.

Iura: Not only visitors to Hiruzen, but also people far away from Hiruzen can participate in mountain conservation activities by getting this T-shirt. And if you get one, we want you to actually come to Maniwa City and climb the mountain wearing this T-shirt. We made this T-shirt with this kind of cycle in mind.

What is important to me in making things is not to convey a problem, but to convey enjoyment. I hope that people will start from this point and delve deeper at their own pace. I hope these bags and T-shirts will serve as a gateway to that end.

This item uses “MOON-TECH®,” an advanced material incorporating “space technology” jointly developed by the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) and Toray Industries, Inc. The overwhelmingly high-spec material, which makes mountaineering scenes comfortable and free from sweat and dirt, is finished in a loose-fitting size that pursues the beauty and comfort of “Ernesto” as it is today. Both the fabric and the sewing are "purely made in Japan," a product that supports Japanese craftsmanship. A portion of the proceeds from this product will be used to support the activities of the "Hiruzen Nature Restoration Council," which conducts trail maintenance activities in harmony with nature, as described in the article.

What is GREENable?

Maniwa City in Okayama Prefecture and Hankyu Hanshin Department Store jointly launched this community brand with the theme of symbiosis with nature. By combining the strengths of Maniwa City's rich natural environment and the city's ability to communicate, the brand is working to create opportunities for people and nature to grow together, such as through the maintenance of mountain trails and collaboration with traditional crafts. With "symbiosis with nature" as its axis, the company is developing sustainable activities in terms of both goods and services.
