Take me to the cinema . Saya Ichikawa talks about her love of "Star Wars.

The release of "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" is only about a month away. After the previous film "The Force Awakens," which kicked off the historic new series, what are your expectations for the new film now? Saya Ichikawa, who loves Gundam and trains and miraculously stands at the intersection of beauty and erudition, is actually well known as a "Star Wars" freak. With Ms. Ichikawa as our guide, we will explore the charms of the Star Wars saga.

Saaya Ichikawa
She has worked as a model for various magazines and has a wealth of knowledge in various genres such as Gundam, railroads, and sumo wrestling. He also has a large collection of "Star Wars" series goods.

There is a good amount of room for "coterie" (laughs).

For today's photo shoot, Mr. Ichikawa brought a lot of his personal Star Wars (hereafter referred to as SW) related goods with him, and it's quite a lot.

market (e.g. river)Hmmm... Just a small part.

What is it about the SW series that attracts you so much?

market (e.g. river)I think the appeal of the SW series lies in many things, such as its innovative and interesting science fiction action and fantasy, its universal human drama, and its well-developed characters. That is why people of all ages, regardless of where they grew up or their religion, can get excited about it. I think the most attractive thing about this work that made me fall in love with it is that it leaves a good amount of room for fantasy. And so, here I am.

Room for delusion?

market (e.g. river)In my opinion, there is room for "doujin" (laughs). In the story, while the setting is detailed and determined, there are also many blank areas that are not explained at all. The balance between the two is exquisite. There is just the right amount of side stories other than the setting and main characters. This makes me want to fantasize about a story that goes even further into the story. It makes my original SW world swell up in my mind. In other words, I get the desire to be a doujinshi (laughs)!

I see (laughs).

market (e.g. river)If the setting is too little, or on the other hand, if it is thoroughly defined in every detail, there is no room for me, but it is just right. When I am watching a movie, I am always wondering about the characters moving around in the background, or about the settings I don't understand, and I wonder what they mean. I start to wonder what it all means. That's when my imagination begins to grow (laughs).

What specific scenes or characters do you fantasize about the most?

market (e.g. river)First at the top of the list is Yoda. Yoda is a perfect doujin frame. I have very little information and the setting is very sweet. I'm trying to think of a story 800 years ago when he became a leader of the Force or something (laughs). The bar scene is a treasure trove of fantasy. There are so many characters who have their own unique personalities. I also fantasize about what is in the pouches of the Ewoks in Episode VI (laughs). I also fantasize about what the Ewoks in Episode VI have in their pouches (laughs). Stones? Cookies? (laughs). It's fun to imagine such small things while watching the movie.

Listening to you, I wondered if Mr. Ichikawa liked the original trilogy (Episodes 4-6).

market (e.g. river)Yes, I did. I was in the U.S. when I was in elementary and junior high school, so I learned of the existence of SW through the frequent reruns on TV, just like the Japanese jibri-animation series. It was in my early elementary school years that I spontaneously decided to watch the entire series by myself. I saw it at a theater that was showing a revival of the series, and from there I was hooked on SW.

When the first film of the new trilogy (Episodes 1-3) was released, he went out in costume.

market (e.g. river)Yes, I did. I stood in line on the first day of its opening in the US. My friends and I got excited and dressed up in costumes, but for some reason I was dressed as Han Solo, which didn't suit me (laughs).

You can find it at ......, even though it doesn't appear solo in "Episode One."

market (e.g. river)Hey. I didn't even particularly like the solo stuff (laughs). I still wonder about that. But I think I must have been so excited that I dressed up as Solo.

He talks about the appeal of the previous film, "The Force Awakens.

So, did you watch "The Force Awakens," the start of the new trilogy (Episodes 7-9), with much anticipation?

market (e.g. river)Yes, I did. Due to work, I was not able to go see the movie on the first day this time. I went to the theater on the second day of its opening. I heard that the theater was really excited, so I went there in high spirits wearing my favorite SW T-shirt, but since it was the second day, the people around me were not so festive, and things had already calmed down (laughs). (Laughs.) I was so excited by myself that I bought all the limited-edition goods. I think I went to the theater four or five times in one week.

First, how did you feel seeing the new SW film on the screen after a long time?

market (e.g. river)I was scheduled to make a phone comment on Utamaru's radio show "Weekend Shuffle" right after I finished watching the movie. His first words were, "It was (properly) Star Wars. I was just so happy that this was the SW I knew, and I remember how excited I was. What I really liked was the new characters. I think the best thing about "The Force Awakens" is that I really felt for them. Critics have said that it is just a repeat of Episode IV, or that there are too many services for old fans, but "The Force Awakens" has the charm of "The Force Awakens".

6_171025_rhn-0222

Do you have a particular favorite character?

market (e.g. river)The main character is Rey, and I have grown to like her so much that I can say that I have never liked her so much, not only as the main character of the SW series, but simply as the main character of any movie.

What attracted you to it?

market (e.g. river)How to run.

I'm getting into the nitty-gritty again.

market (e.g. river)Her running style is a little awkward and boyish. She is really a beautiful and elegant Hollywood actress, but Rey is a girl who lives alone in the desert, scavenging. But Rey is a girl living alone in the desert, collecting scraps. I thought that the film showed a little bit of her rough and tumble side through her movements, as if we could understand her upbringing.

I see. I will pay attention to it again and watch it.

market (e.g. river)Then there is the scene at the end where he hands Luke his lightsaber. I like the expression on his face. At the end, his eyes become much stronger. Relief and joy at seeing Luke, but also fear of what lies ahead and the strength to withstand it. I was attracted by the straight eyes that tell us all these emotions.

Some fans of past works have disapproved of the female protagonist.

market (e.g. river)Yes, it was. But I think it was great. I think it's great that a strong character like Rey can become one of the role models that girls all over the world look up to.

Fun before "The Force Awakens" is released.

So, were there any fantasy points in "The Force Awakens" that caught your attention after watching it repeatedly?

market (e.g. river)There are many things, but what I liked was the scene between Han Solo and Chewbacca. There is a scene where Solo throws out his jacket. Chewie glances at Solo's jacket for a moment. Then, a little while later, the scene changes. Solo says, "It's cold. Then Chewie quickly pulls out the jacket and hands it to him. He said, "Oh, I was just picking it up! He said, "Oh, I was just picking it up!

It shows the relationship between the two (laughs).

market (e.g. river)It's wonderful! On the other hand, I was convinced that these two had been hanging out together for a long time even after Episode 6! I was convinced that they had been hanging out together for a long time even after Episode 6! Chewie must have a family, but I'm not sure if that's a good thing (laughs). (Laughs) I also like the pairing of Poe and Finn. I hope to see more of them in the new film.

T-shirts and rings are his personal belongings.

Is there anything else you would like to see in the latest "The Last Jedi"?

market (e.g. river)I like Gundams, and I like trains. I really like inorganic designs. Naturally, the mech-related aspects of SW are also one of the points that make me go "wow. However, I felt that the mecha design of "The Force Awakens" was not one step beyond the impression of the original trilogy. It was cool to see the Star Destroyer and X-Wing for the first time in Episode IV! I would like to see a completely new design in "The Last Jedi" like I was impressed with the Star Destroyer and X-Wing for the first time in Episode IV.

I like this excited period before the release of the film.

market (e.g. river)Yes, that's right. I see a trailer and say, "Oh, I don't know..." or "I heard there was a Yoda doll on the set..." (laughs)! I was misled by rumors on the Internet like, "I heard there was a Yoda doll on set!" (laughs).

Were there any points of interest in the trailer?

market (e.g. river)I think you have a new character, "Pogue". I was actually on location for a TV interview. It turns out that they were filming on the island of Skellig Michael in Ireland, which is the sacred island of the Jedi where Luke lives. This island is inhabited by a bird called the puffin (western puffin), which I thought was very cute. After I returned to Japan after the recording, I watched the new trailer and was surprised to see a Porg that looked just like a puffin! I imagined that during the filming of "Jedi Awakening," a new character might have been created based on Puffin. There aren't many streamlined characters like this, so it's unusual. I am looking forward to seeing what kind of activity they will have. Anyway, now is a time of various expectations. I think I love the SW series, including the fact that I look forward to the release of the film, imagining this and that from various information.

I can't wait for "The Last Jedi" to be released.

market (e.g. river)Yes, "The Force Awakens" only increased various questions and mysteries, so ...... that, you know, nothing has been resolved yet (laughs). Well, it's the first movie, so it's natural to start by throwing out the story, but I hope that the new movie will delve more into the story. Kylo Ren still doesn't seem to be enough of a big bad. I wonder how he will change in the future too. ...... And more heels are likely to appear in the story of how he fell into darkness. Dark side heroes are also an attraction of SW. I'm really looking forward to seeing what happens there!
