While snowboarding is a popular winter sport, it is also a cultural sport that mixes fashion and music. We welcome Burton, a company that has shaped and continues to lead the snowboarding scene, as our partner to introduce the appeal of snowboarding in its current form in a series of columns. We will continue this Series until just before the start of the snowboarding season.

Burton is the leader in snowboarding. One of the main attractions of this brand is its extensive lineup of lifestyle wear. This time, we picked up items from Burton's latest collection that caught the attention of the Hui-Nam editorial staff.

Each editorial staff member will write about the appeal of Burton's lifestyle wear, which combines winter mountain sports with a streetwise spirit, along with the items they have selected.

Low-tech and high-tech become good friends.

I have a bit of a problem with standard items from standard brands. For example, denim pants from Levi's, polo collar shirts from Brooks Brothers, BB caps from New Era, and so on. I think they are wonderful as objects, of course, but when I wear them myself, I feel somewhat embarrassed. In that sense, I have no experience with "Barracouta," which is known for its swing tops. However, the "Barracuda Jacket" by Burton made me hang my head. While the looks are extremely classic, the functionality, or rather the cold protection, is naturally of a high level. I was surprised by this mash-up. There are four color developments, but I am definitely this beige! The color of the lining is also very stylish. (The color of the lining is also very stylish.)

A fleece anorak that kills three birds with one stone.

I started skiing last season. And as I started skiing, I began to understand the situation of snowy mountains in winter a little more. Surprisingly, there are no factions such as skiing or snowboarding, but rather, they all coexist well within the common denominator of playing in the snowy mountains. So I wanted to break down the barriers and incorporate the best of both worlds. That's where this fleece comes in. The fleece material is sweat-absorbent and can handle fun skiing, and has a convenient kangaroo pocket. The anorak design with a classic outdoor taste is also not to be missed. This is an item that can be used for skiing, snowboarding, and town use in any situation. (Hiroshi Yamamoto, Deputy Editor)

A truly Tokyo-like item.

Work is an extension of play. My image of Burton is that it lives up to this ideal. The company motto, "Enjoy snowboarding before starting work," is also a source of envy. In fact, the fashion-focused collections seen in the collaborations with Burton Thirteen and Neighborhood are the result of the free sensibilities of the people working there and the open-minded corporate culture, and I feel that the experience has had a positive impact on Burton itself. I feel that the backpack and sweatshirt have a pure "coolness" that is not a conventional sporty design. (Jun Nakata / Editorial Department)

I'm crazy about the graphics. That's all!

On a personal note, I have always been fascinated by the number 13, and have watched and listened to "Friday the 13th" with Jason, the non-thin cutter, and "The Bad Luck 13 Riot I watched and listened to "Extravaganza. In Western culture, "13" is an unlucky number, but I thought it was more ironic that way. Putting aside my personal point of view, if we move on to the item itself, the classical graphic of the mountain in the back that you see first is frankly cool. The rolled-up hem and cuffs accentuate the design, while at the same time making it easy to wear without tightness, which is typical of Burton. I think it can be worn neatly in a true-to-size style, or a bit sloppy in a 90's style. (Mari Kobayashi / Editor)

I was attracted to the mustard-like khaki color.

In recent years, the term "mild winter" has come into common use. There is no doubt that there is less snow than when I was a child, and the number of days below freezing has decreased. But it is still cold between December and March. Every morning, I look at the few outerwear items in my closet and wonder which one I should choose today (......). This time, I chose the "Heritage Down Jacket" from Burton's 2016 fall/winter collection. I was struck by its moderately vintage-style, nostalgic design and mustard-like khaki color. Unlike its classic look, the Heritage Down Jacket is made of waterproof, breathable, and durable nylon ripstop fabric. In addition, it is made of high quality 650 fill power duck down, which provides excellent warmth. This is a piece of clothing that you will want to incorporate as a mainstay this winter. Far East Expedition.

The skyscrapers that stand in a row create a sharp, freezing wind, while stepping into an office or train makes you sweat from the warmth of the heaters. Because of the extreme difference in temperatures in urban winter, it is convenient to have heavy outerwear that is warm enough to wear just one layer and can be quickly taken off indoors. We chose the "Bryce Jacket" from this perspective. The motif of this jacket is based on the down outerwear worn by Antarctic expedition teams, with N-3B-like details and military colors. It is generally a rugged kind of outerwear, but we like the sporty, urban finish typical of "Burton," such as the watertight zips and hydrogen-repellent material. With reliable outerwear, you can cheerfully explore the harsh winter weather of Tokyo. (Taiyo Nagashima / Editor)
