Outdoor specs are winter's best friend.

OUTDOOR SPEC by COLUMBIA BLACK LABEL.

Outdoor specs are your friend in winter.

COLUMBIA has rewritten the history of outdoor clothing with its many groundbreaking ideas and technologies. Among these, Omni-Heat, which enhances heat retention, Omni-Tech, which provides waterproof breathability, and the Interchange System, which allows for a variety of wearing styles, are still used in many garments today to protect outdoorsmen from the rigors of nature. COLUMBIA BLACK LABEL has introduced these outdoor-spec technologies into townwear. The brand proposes styles that make urban life comfortable in the dead of winter. In this issue, we will focus on three of COLUMBIA's representative technologies and introduce styling that will look great in the city this winter.

OMNI-HEAT

Loss of body heat in the winter outdoors can be life-threatening. It is thought that heat retention efficiency can be further enhanced by not only trapping heat inside the down and padding, but also by reflecting the body heat emitted from the body and keeping it outside. Based on this idea, Columbia developed its own Omni-Heat.

STORM BOWL™ JACKET

Compact body with outstanding heat retention.

This mid-length down jacket has a tight silhouette and is filled with high-quality down for enhanced warmth. The lining is made of Omni-Heat, a functional material developed by Columbia, to further improve heat retention. The inside of the hood has a stand collar to prevent wind from entering through the collar, and there are hand warmer pockets to keep your hands warm. It is a piece of clothing that can withstand the midwinter cold.

Color: Black, Nori, Abyss

Editor's Comments

The down volume is generous, but the short length and narrow arm and body width allow for a clean, sharp look. Also, thanks to the stand collar inside the hood and the front zipper that closes securely at the top of the neck, there is no need for a scarf. The urban design makes it a good match for technical sportswear as well.

Recommended Styling

The monotone color scheme of this styling creates an urban impression. The down provides good protection from the cold, so a sweatshirt is sufficient as an inner layer when worn in the city. The slacks-like gray pants add elegance and sportiness, while the cap adds an outdoor feel.

OTTO LOOP™ JACKET

A warm yet rugged military jacket.

This piece is designed in the motif of the M-65, a famous military jacket. The moderate amount of padding that does not interfere with the silhouette and Omni-Heat provide more heat retention than meets the eye. The outer fabric is made of thin and soft cotton typewriter cloth, creating a sense of luxury in a rugged appearance. Like the original, it has a zipper on the collar to stow away the hood, and four flap pockets and a zip pocket on the front for high storage capacity.

Color: Surplus Green, Black

Editor's Comments

The motif of this jacket is based on military jackets, so it is full of details and has a rugged appearance, but it is actually stress-free when worn because of the supple and lightweight material used for the shell. The practical details, such as the elastic cuffs that provide a good fit and the zip pockets that are convenient for frequently used small items, are also a plus.

Recommended Styling

A masculine outfit is constructed by utilizing a military-style jacket. The silhouette of the top and ribbed pants is relatively sharp, so the cap and shoes add volume to balance it out. The jacket's high storage capacity allows you to go out with just one mini pouch.

What's OMNI-HEAT

Heat-reflective heat retention technology ensures the strongest warmth.

By lining the fabric with reflective prints of aluminum dots, body heat is effectively reflected and accumulated, resulting in a high level of heat retention. In addition, not only is the fabric's natural breathability not compromised, but it also has the advantage of reducing the generation of static electricity by encouraging discharge.

OMNI-TECH

There are many brands of waterproof and breathable clothing in the world, but not many of them have developed their own materials. Columbia has developed its own Omni-Tech waterproof/breathable material, making it possible to offer products at more reasonable prices while achieving functionality and reliability.

ALAMO CREEK™ JACKET

Waterproof coat that is safe even in bad weather.

This long-length coat makes a big impact with its full-length buffalo camo pattern, which was used by Columbia in the 1980s. In addition to using Omni-Tech, which realizes excellent waterproof and breathable properties through its three-layer construction, seam tapes are applied to the seams, and watertight zippers are used to demonstrate its high waterproof performance. It can also be used as a raincoat. In addition, the inner down layer can be layered for warmth in cold weather.

Color: Buffalo Camo, Nori, Abyss

Editor's Comments

The material and details give it a functional impression, although the construction is of the traditional stainless collar coat type. It has a sharp silhouette, but the shoulder specifications of set-in in the front and raglan in the back ensure ease of movement. It can be used not only for casual wear, but also for casual on-style wear.

Recommended Styling

The earth-colored items and other natural shades balance the impressive camo pattern. The coat is thin, so a parka and shirt are layered for warmth. An orange cap and a satchel add a touch of color to create a preppy atmosphere.

Columbia] Split Range Knit Cap ¥2,300+TAX, Stuart Cone Succoche ¥2,600+TAX, [Sorel] Sorel Dude Moc ¥11,000+TAX

What's OMNI-TECH

It completely shuts out rain and snow. And it doesn't get damp.

Omni-Tech achieves superior waterproof breathability by sandwiching a porous membrane between fabrics that shuts out rain and allows only fine moisture vapor to pass through. It is effective in outdoor activities in bad weather or during strenuous exercise that makes you sweat. Of course, it also promises comfort for town use.

INTERCHANGE SYSTEM

The interchange system developed by Columbia in 1982 changed the concept of outdoor wear. The high functionality of the system, which allows the wearer to wear the garment in three different ways depending on the situation, was accepted by town people and led to outdoor wear being worn as street clothes.

HUNT HARBOR™ JACKET & DONALD HILL™ JACKET

A hunting jacket that can be worn in a variety of ways.

The Hunt Harbor Jacket is a modern update of the Omni Quad Parka, a classic hunting jacket from the 1980s. Like the original, it features an interchangeable system, allowing the jacket to be worn alone or with the reversible inner cotton lining, the Donald Hill Jacket, which can be removed to accommodate a wide range of climates. It also retains details unique to hunting jackets, such as the shell casing holders used during hunting, which tickle the hearts of men.

Editor's Comments

The sense of security you get when layering a 3-layer Omni-Tech jacket with a padded liner is exceptional. If you take the hood of the jacket on and off, the impression changes dramatically, and the liner can be worn reversibly. Depending on the combination, it can be worn in any number of ways, so you can get through the winter with just this set. The seasonal hunting motif will go well with street style outfits."

Recommended Styling

This is a full-fledged layered style that can withstand extreme cold. The turtleneck thermal, pocket T, and pants are all in one tone of navy, while the color shading and materials add depth. The camo pattern on the lining of the jacket and the 90s-style coloring of the bag accentuate the look.

Hunt Harbor Jacket ¥48,000+TAX, Donald Hill Jacket ¥29,000+TAX, Two Lakes Short Sleeve T-shirt ¥8900+TAX, Clarks Spring Turtleneck ¥9,000 +Gertrand pants ¥15,000+TAX, Gatino Park cap ¥4,900, [Columbia] Price stream hip bag ¥3,300+TAX, Sabre 3 low omnitech ¥11,000

What's INTERCHANGE SYSTEM

Two outer garments in one. Unique layering system for a wide range of climates.

A layering system in which an outer jacket and inner jacket can be attached and detached by jointing them with zippers and snap buttons. This system, which can be worn individually or in combination to cope with a wide range of climates, is used in a variety of Columbia's clothing.
