Clothing, gear, and playthings for lakeside camping.

CHUMS lake camp

Clothing, gear, and playthings to use when camping by the lake.

It's early summer, the days are gradually getting longer and signs of summer are everywhere. I can't wait until the real summer season begins! So, dressed in summer wear from CHUMS, we went camping at Lake Nishiko in the Fuji Five Lakes region. We enjoyed delicious outdoor food and crisp cold beer with the vast lakeside scenery and the sun setting over the mountains! Stand-up paddle (SUP) out on the lake for the best toast, then chill out in your tent. We also introduce new camping goods from Chums that are well thought out for enjoying nature.

Before we get to the BBQ...let's rewind time and start with the preparations.

The Chilcamp group left Tokyo a little later than usual, since we couldn't all get up early. We headed for "Lake Nishiko Free Campsite" on the shores of Lake Nishiko, one of the Fuji Five Lakes, which is a two-hour drive from Tokyo. We secured a site near the lake, as it is literally a freedom site where you can set up your tent anywhere you like within the grounds.

Anyway, first we will set up a one-day base. The new Booby Bird Nest is a 3-4 person dome tent. "Hey, where do these poles go?" Not there! The tent, which we all managed to complete with our unaccustomed hands, is a hexagonal hexagonal shape when viewed from above. The ceiling is high enough to change clothes comfortably, and with three entrances and exits, it looks like a secret base, which is kind of fun. There are many color variations, including Teal/Orange, Yellow/Blue, Love&Peace, Tie Dye, etc., and the tent site is all at once gorgeous.

SUP before dinner to fill your stomach.

Once the tent was safely set up, we decided to try stand-up paddle (SUP), a popular activity nowadays. SUP is easier than surfing and more convenient than kayaking because you paddle on an inflated board. It can be done anywhere on the water's edge, whether in the ocean or on a river, but lakes with few waves are especially good for beginners.

Although it was the first time for Afro-kun (CHABI) to try SUP, he was able to go out to sea easily thanks to the high buoyancy of the board. However, it was a bit too much for him to stand up on the board. But it was all right. If he wears plunge divers, even if he sinks, he will be dry in no time. Still, he had a nice smile on his face.

Even casual playing cards are fun at the camp site.

After Afro-kun survived the SUP, the four of us enjoyed a relaxing card game in the tent. The Booby Bird Nest is fully mesh and well-ventilated, so it's cool even in the middle of summer. The three large pockets inside can also be used to store playthings, snacks, and other items essential for tent life. Anyway, if you get caught, you'll be punished. Let's decide who will be in charge of cleaning up after dinner.

Ratatouille and soup curry with new kitchen utensils.

After playing cards for a while, we prepared for dinner before the sun went down. Tonight's menu is ratatouille and soup curry, says Banana. The new skillet and Dutch oven are enameled on the inside, so they do not stick or rust even if oil or seasoning is used.

Incidentally, the key to success is to prepare each dish at home, and to limit yourself to cutting and warming vegetables locally. The finishing touch is to drop some cheese on the ratatouille and sear it, and top the soup curry with boiled eggs. We toasted with a bottle of beer that had been chilled in the cooler box! Yum! and in no time at all the sake and food disappeared.

Drainage begins with no one.

With full bellies in their stomachs, the group takes a bench by the lake to chill out. The group sat on a bench by the lake and chilled out, looking at the lake and the sky in the twilight while thinking about the day. As they talked about "It's getting a little cold," or "Let's make some coffee," they started throwing rocks. Before we knew it, a serious battle had begun to see how many times we could find a thin pebble and run out of water.

I'll do it too! Miho, the red-hot girl, threw a pebble with all her might and it hit Banana-kun's trademark head. Banana-kun could not hide his surprise and laughter. Banana-kun could not hide his surprise, and everyone could not hold back their laughter. It was a nice happening.

Portraits of a group of campers at a leisurely pace.

This time, all four of us wore amphibious shorts as a base, along with a standard logo T-shirt and a new patterned aloha shirt. When it gets a little chilly, we put on a coach jacket (Afro-kun) or a denim jacket (Megane-kun [KSK]).

Because of the unusual nature of camping, colorful aloha shirts like Miho's are also a good choice. And Banana's camping vest is also worthy of special mention. It is a "wearable bag" with large pockets that can hold gloves, a smartphone, and other items essential for camping. It is a unique piece of clothing that allows you to create a unique look while enjoying camping with nothing.
