Smartwatches have the excitement of a science fiction movie.

How many smartwatches do you have?

high lockI have: three different brands. But I have to choose one smartwatch that makes my life convenient in the true sense of the word. It is something I wear (i.e., fashion), so I enjoy mixing it with other watches depending on my mood.

Are the main items you use functional and easy to use?

high lockYes, it's very convenient and the perfection is perfect. I can do the information processing I used to do with my smartphone right under my arm. The recently added electronic payment function is also very convenient. However, we have to be careful not to disrupt our daily lives with too much quick information input.

I see.

high lockSmartwatches are an item that tickles a man's fancy. When I was a kid, the characters in the sci-fi movies I used to watch would have panels on their arms that controlled various things, right? They used them to communicate with their friends and remotely control vehicles. I think that kind of thing overlaps with the way people today operate smartwatches.

It's true that we don't see items like smart phones in science fiction movies from the past.

high lock: Yes, yes. So in that sense, a smartwatch is an item that I admire. It's kind of exciting.

Smartwatches are becoming popular among the general public, and various manufacturers are entering this market.

high lockI think it's a very good thing. Simply because you can see various personalities. Besides, the fashion aspect of watches is sometimes more important than their function. If a wide range of designs are released, we will have more choices.

As you said earlier, it will also make it easier to use the different types of equipment.

high lockYes, that's right. So I feel that as a user, I am simply happy to see various smartwatches being released.

What do you think of the "DieselOn" design from your point of view?

high lockI like the design. I like watches with large dials. So I simply like that about "DieselOn. As far as fashion is concerned, it is perfect. When you hear the word "smartwatch," you tend to think of simple, small items. But this is an item that overturns that stereotype.

By the way, you have also released a bracelet type item called "DieselOn Track".

high lock: I think this is also very complete as a bracelet. When you have a watch that you want to prioritize, you can just put this "DieselOn Track" around your wrist and link it to your smartphone, and the simple tap operation is very appealing.

What do you think about the approach of smartwatches made by fashion brands rather than gadget makers?

high lockAs I mentioned earlier, fashion is especially important in watches, so I think this is a good thing. If a watch has a high degree of perfection as a premise and also functions as a smartwatch, it can be easily accepted by a wide range of people. I think that "DieselOn" is just such an item.

Interesting uses are possible, depending on the user's ideas.

You mentioned that the design is perfect, but what about the functionality?

high lockThe watch is equipped with the minimum functions that a smartwatch should have, such as notifications of phone calls and e-mails, music playback control, and a camera shutter function. In addition to these functions, the watch can also be used to measure pedometer and sleep, but what I would like to focus on is the goal setting function.

What kind of function is that?

high lockI have: an activity tracking feature that counts my activities by pushing a button. This feature has moved me. By default, the item is "drink water". For example, let's say I try to drink a glass of water three times a day. So, when I drink water, I can push this button on the clock to see how many times I drank water in a day.

In other words, it helps to raise awareness of the goal.

high lockI think that's right. When you achieve a goal, a GIF image is played on your cell phone to congratulate you in a small way for achieving your goal.

What did you like about this feature?

high lockI think the essence of this feature lies in the fact that "drink water" is the default goal and can be customized freely by the user. So I think it is okay to count other things instead of goals. For example, it could be something passive, such as the number of times you are thanked in a day. On days when the number of times you are thanked is high, you can think, "Oh, I did a lot of good things today" (laughs). (Laughs.) The fact that users can use the system in interesting ways, depending on their own ideas, is appealing.

Are there any other features that you like?

high lock: Then, by operating the clock, I can make the phone's alarm go off. So when you lose your phone in a room, you can remotely control it to sound an alarm to find your phone. Even if the phone is set to silent, this feature is reassuring because it will sound without question.

It's a niche function that really scratches an itch.

high lock: It may be so. One drawback, however, is that this function of sounding an alarm and the goal-setting function mentioned earlier cannot be used at the same time. I hope this will be improved when the software is updated.

What about the "minimum necessary functions" you mentioned earlier? For example, music playback control, camera shutter function, etc.

high lockThe music playback is easy to operate, as it can be played, fast-forwarded, and rewound by pressing and holding the buttons twice or for a long time. Also, the response after operation is smooth, so there is no stress.

I see. How about the shutter function?

high lock: This is good for taking selfies when you are out drinking or traveling. You can use this function to remotely trigger the shutter while the phone is fixed somewhere, so you don't need a selfie stick or anything.

The design and functionality were even better than I had imagined.

We would like to ask you what you think of the "DieselOn". First of all, what do you think about the design?

high lockI don't care how good a watch is, if it doesn't look cool as a watch, I don't feel like wearing it. But this watch fits my taste perfectly, and I wanted to use it simply as a fashion item.

What about the functions?

high lockI think it is true of all gadgets these days: they are too multifunctional, or the functions are not fully utilized. But this "DieselOn" has simple functions. That's why it is easy to use.

In other words, it has excellent usability.

high lockYes, it is. As for the battery, since the basic design is an analog clock, it can work for a long time with a button battery. The battery can be easily replaced by yourself with the included tool. Also, even though the dial is analog, it synchronizes with your smartphone and notifies you with the movement of the hands when notifications come in. This makes the watch visually pleasing. Of course, it also vibrates to notify you.

How do you see "DieselOn" in your eyes?

high lockThe design and functions were even better than I had imagined. In particular, the goal-setting function is excellent. I think it can be very useful depending on how you use it, and it has stimulated my imagination. I am looking forward to experimenting with it and finding my own unique way of using it.
