Soba Noodles throughout the Year 2020 . Triple Fire Yasunao Yoshida

Soba all the way. 2020 in review.
Triple Fire Yasunao Yoshida

The dish is eaten with the hope that the hardships and misfortunes of the previous year will not be carried over into the next year, and that they will be completely discarded. This is the origin of "Toshikoshi Soba," a dish that has been served since the Edo period (there are various theories). This year has been an unprecedented year due to the worldwide outbreak of a new type of coronavirus infection. Are there any events that you would like to forget? We invited Mr. Yasunao Yoshida of Triple Fire, who has appeared in comedy shows, movies, and commercials with his elusive character, including a special feature on "Tamori Club" to find a suitable part-time job, as a guest and who has been expanding his field of activities this year. He has been expanding his activities this year.

I wish this year never happened."

You can order whatever you like. I don't know how to say this in a buckwheat noodle restaurant, but Mr. Yoshida is from Kagawa, so would you have preferred udon?

Yoshida:No, I don't usually eat soba or udon very often. I only go to "Fuji Soba" once in a while when I feel like eating. ...... Then, I'll have Tempura Soba, please, and beer.

This project is to look back on the year while eating soba noodles with our guests. To begin with, what kind of year was 2020?

Yoshida:Hey, I'm not sure I want to pretend this year didn't happen. ......

Let me ask you in detail (laughs).

Yoshida:In fact, it was supposed to be a more powerful year. Various things that we had planned to release disappeared, and the enthusiasm that we had initially had waned, resulting in ...... being a lazy year.

You wrote six columns in magazines and on the Web this year. It is very rare for a musician to have this many columns.

Yoshida:I am not very good at writing. I am too self-conscious about what people might think of me. But if they are asking me to write, I am sure they appreciate it. I had planned to publish a book this year, but due to various delays, I decided not to do so because I was not sure if it would be a good idea to publish it under the Corona Disaster. It should be out next year.

I'm looking forward to it. Is it newly written?

Yoshida:What I am working on now is a compilation of the serialization I wrote in "EX Mass" until September of this year, with additions and revisions. Incidentally, I also plan to publish serials in other magazines and new writings in 2021. I hope I can become someone else by doing so (laughs).

I would like to ask you about the reason why you have been so lazy that you want to "pretend" this year never happened.

Yoshida:I've been going to a martial arts gym with a friend for the last year. I learn jujitsu and grappling there, but I stopped going around March of this year, and since then I've clearly lost my enthusiasm and writing pressure. I was also planning to release an album with my band. So that will probably come out next year. At the end of last year I said, "Seriously, we're going to do it next year! 2020 is our year!" So we were doing something right up until about March. ...... I became lazy after I stopped going to the gym. I'm sure there are people who have moved on while I've been lazy, so I'd like to see all of that included in this year's charade.

You were also preparing to release your fifth album. What did you expect to happen in 2020?

Yoshida:The album and the book sold well, and the synergistic effect ...... resulted in a kind of "amazing person" (laughs). I thought it would be easier to live if that happened. At the moment, I'm a musician, but I'm doing a lot of different things, and I think it's all pretty much halfway. ......

Tempura soba 800 yen (tax not included)
