Do you often use watches in your daily life?

manorI've actually never worn a watch very much in the past. Basically, I don't like to wear anything that interferes with my work as much as possible. I often use watches for styling work, and I don't dislike them as products, though.

That's unexpected. What role do you look for in a watch when styling it?

manorBasically, we place importance on what kind of situations we can adapt our products to. From there, we select watches with designs and functions that suit the scene, and we hope that the watches will help people imagine their lifestyles and work. Watches, like clothes, have their own character, so some watches are for daily use, while others are more suited to outdoor activities. It is important to respect the character of each watch.

In that sense, what kind of watch would suit your profession as a stylist?

manor: Personally, I think analog seems to be better. I think it is easier to get a sense of time than digital watches. I don't usually wear a watch, but if I did, I would be an analog person too.

As a stylist, do you often worry about time?

manorI think that's right. When you are working on a lease, you have to be there at a certain time, so you are inevitably concerned about the time. It is almost like being chased. So I probably have more opportunities to look at the clock than most people.

G-STEEL
While maintaining the toughness of the brand's look and feel, the new layered structure combines different materials such as metal parts, resin, and fine resin to realize a significantly updated shock-resistant structure. In addition, special processing has been used to express sharp letters and lines, sublimating the face to an urban look. It is a top quality model with an edgy design. ¥40,000+TAX

You mentioned that you have not had such a strong relationship with watches in the past, but did your perception of watches change as you got older?

manorTo be honest, at my current age, I have no desire to have something that is high-spec and that will become a status symbol for myself. I think I am looking for something practical. Of course, as an adult, I think it is important to be concerned about status, but I think that the convenience in daily life is more meaningful than the status.

Is that the same as your criteria for choosing clothes?

manorI think so. I think we may be similar. Rather than brand supremacy, my priority is to be free to wear the clothes I like and be rough. For example, when I wear a suit and go to a social gathering of adults, I need to wear a watch that suits my TPO, but when I have a lease or a location shoot in bad weather or when I am busy, I often move around a lot. I think I will naturally reach for waterproof, shock-resistant watches and comfortable clothes that are easy to move around in.

In that sense, I guess you could say that the "G-STEEL" is suitable for Mr. Honjo's lifestyle. How do you feel when you actually see and touch the items?

manorI thought it was a model that could be used in a rough way, not in the sense that it is more robust and clunky than it looks. The balance between the metal frame and the urethane band made of resin is exquisite, and the design is easy to blend in with the city. If the design is too much focused on one or the other, it would be limited in terms of the situations in which it can be used, so I thought it was a good balance. I think this is one of the few models that can be used in town and still express the toughness of a watch as a functional beauty.

The product not only gives the impression of being tough, but it also incorporates cutting-edge technology in terms of functionality. What do you think about that?

manorI think the functionality of watches has become a matter of course in this day and age, but I trust that you pursue such functionality without compromise. Surprisingly, design watches that specialize in fashion are sometimes weak in this area. What? This function is not included? I was like, "What's wrong with that? G-Shock doesn't have that. That sense of security is important.

I think the design aspect is as important as the functionality when it comes to styling.

manorToday's styling is a rugged look with a rugged military coat as the main feature, while also expressing an everyday atmosphere with chukka boots and a basic cap. I myself have always had a basic style with an urban feel as my everyday theme, so I thought this model fit in surprisingly easily with today's outfit. This watch is a watch that blends in well with the coordinated look, yet still manages to show off the watch's presence and accentuate it.

What kind of brand is G-Shock for you?

manorI think so. From a generational point of view, they are representative of the 90's, just like sneakers. There have been a lot of magazine articles on rare models and collaborations. I myself was not that much of a collector, but I used to use the old "G-SHOCK" and "DATA BANK. When I was in junior high school, I didn't even have a cell phone yet. There was a time when I registered the phone numbers of my family and friends and used it as a phone book.

That brings back memories. Lastly, since the theme of this exhibition is clocks, I would like to ask you how you yourself deal with time in your daily life.

manorI wonder what it is. If I were to use an analogy, I would say it is like a bank balance. I am always conscious of how to make good use of the time I have left in a day, and sometimes I want to use it all up neatly. Unlike money, time cannot be carried over, but instead can be used to prepare for tomorrow. For those who have such a sense, a watch may be necessary after all.
