Reebok Classic" resonates with D.A.N. 〜Furylite

Simple and classic. It is this sense of harmony between the music played by D.A.N. and the "Reebok Classic" that makes the brand's shoes so unique. Inspired by the brand's iconic Instapump Fury, the Fury Lite is a "light" pair that retains the Instapump's genes but has been stripped down to a more minimalist design and functionality. In this issue, the three members of D.A.N. talk about the appeal of these shoes and give us serious answers about their musical activities. This is the long version of the talk that could not be published in the same issue of "Finam Unplugged" magazine.

A lightweight gem that carries the DNA of the Instapump Fury.

The Instapump Fury, familiarly known as the first color worn by Bjork, is a high-tech sneaker representing the 90s that was created in 1994. The impact of its futuristic form and coloring is still highly popular in 2017 without fading.

And the "Fury Lite" is a light version that retains the genes of the Instapump, but has been updated with more advanced technology. The mesh enhances breathability, and the integrated "3D ULTRALITE SOLE" midsole and outsole reduce weight, increase cushioning and durability, and reduce the burden on the foot. Of course, not only functionality, but also the design has become "light" by eliminating waste, and all colors of black, white, and navy do not choose the times or people. It can be said that another "classic" model has been born.

The ease with which they can be worn like sandals is a nice touch.

First of all, please tell us frankly how you feel when you wear "Fury Lite".

market (e.g. river)The sole is not too designed or simple, in a good sense. The fit of the sole is also casual. It's not as thick as those with a lot of cushioning, and it's just the right thinness. They hit all the right spots.

upstreamI thought they would be easy to wear, and they are lightweight compared to the Instapumps. They are slip-ons, and I thought they would be easy to wear. I usually choose standard or classic models, so I'm glad to see that they come in standard colors that seem easy to use.

cherry treeI thought "Club C" looks like it would be very spirited when you tie the string, but this one looks more relaxed.

upstreamI like to wear shoes that are easy to take off and put on. I like shoes that are easy to take off and put on. The "Fury Lite" shoes are easy to take off when traveling by car.

market (e.g. river)I like to wear them with slacks or something. I like the idea of wearing high-tech sneakers with old-fashioned clothes. The members of "Battles" also wore high-tech shoes with their slacks, and it looked cool.

D.A.N.'s music is unspoken and something we love.

Let's talk about our activities this time. Could you tell us again about the background of the three of you?

cherry tree: The three of us started working together around the end of our third year of college. Originally, there were six of us, but after a lot of trial and error, we finally settled on the three of us. After that, we all set goals for how we wanted to pursue our music, and last year we released our first album and played at Fuji Rock.

upstreamWe all originally knew each other and had similar interests, but when we decided to take music seriously once again, the three of us got together. We all want to make good music and expand our horizons, and we all share the same feelings about what we want to do in the end.

Do the three of you have any kind of spiritual roles?

cherry treeI am, well, an idea man.

upstreamAnd: and I'm going to put it together.

market (e.g. river)I am the lubricant that keeps the gears turning. I am the oil (laughs).

upstreamI was like Shinji Kagawa at United. He was called a great lubricant at that time, but Moyes didn't notice.

cherry treeI'm not sure if it's a soccer story or not, but it's really starting to come around now that there are three of us. But it really feels like the three of us have started to turn things around. I was surprised at how much music we were able to produce. I think there is a balance in many things that can be achieved with the least amount of interaction possible, and I felt that the three of us were like that.

What kind of music does D.A.N. make? Do you remember the first song you wrote?

cherry treeI wonder if it is "Beach".

upstream: It's a session, isn't it?

cherry treeI started playing with an image in my mind that I wanted to use as a reference, and then it just happened.

market (e.g. river)But it hasn't changed since then. Just the right, balanced temperature and so on.

cherry treeWe don't really have a set idea of what we want to make, but rather what we want to do according to our mood at the time. It is difficult to put it into words, and I think that is why we express ourselves through music.

upstreamIt's what we like.

market (e.g. river)I think the filter has always been in everyone's mind, and it's just a matter of what to put in and how to get it out.

cherry treeIt's a texture, isn't it? Something that stimulates all of our senses, whether they are the five senses or the six senses. That's what I want to be.

I felt like it was music from the inside, like falling into the subconscious or falling asleep.

cherry treeThat's great. Since the three of us really started writing songs together for the first time, even now, it's not like we're all going "woo-hoo" (laughs). I would be happy to share the feeling of evolving within my own mind.

I think the number of people who say "D.A.N. is great" is increasing, and not just in the music scene.

cherry treeI am grateful for that. Since the release of the first album, I feel it more. I don't know how to put it. I think the album was a big part of it. We have been blessed by the people around us, as we have been able to expand and create contacts that we never expected. Even when we think, "This is really cool, this is going to work! but there is a little part of us that wonders if it will be all right. But there is also a small part of us that wonders, "Is this going to be OK? Then, when someone says, "This song is really good! I'm so happy that I almost cry.

The image of the new work is "a feeling of quiet burning.

What are you doing these days? What are you doing now?

cherry treeI'm going to do a one-man tour, and I'm working towards that. Of course, we are also working on production. We are trying to evolve and surprise ourselves more and more.

What do you think of your new work?

upstreamI'm not going to tell you now, because the announcement is a long way off. But I don't think it will be like anything I've ever done before. It's always the same.

cherry treeI personally think that there are many moments in which the keywords "minimal mellow" and "psychedelic" match each other. Minimal music has very few notes, and psychedelic music is very messy, so they are completely opposite. I think the character of our music is the interesting mixing of these two extremes. It's like a quiet fire.

For example, if you could feature anyone, who would it be?

cherry treeI can't say for sure who it is, but is it a rapper with a tremendous new talent? Someone who is cool from the bottom of his heart.

upstreamRapper: I'd like to try it.

cherry treeI think it is difficult for me to express myself as an individual when I rap.

upstreamI've always wanted to do it. It is hard to find someone like him yet, but I would be happy if a Japanese person comes up.

If the members say it's good, that's the most important thing.

What has made you happy so far?

cherry treeI've been mixing new songs lately, and when I'm listening to them myself, I really start to cry. I'm listening to the song while thinking about what could make it better, but then I forget about that, and there are moments when the emotion inside me just comes rushing out and I burst into tears. This is what I call emotion. I think it would be great if I could do that every time, every time.

upstreamI am impressed when I am watching a match or something (laughs). Kei Nishikori's match really moved me. It was amazing, like when he won against Djokovic. I felt like screaming. He was going for a tie-breaking match with everyone involved. That kind of thing motivates me.

market (e.g. river)I don't know if it's an emotion, but it was the first time I formed a band and played a live concert. I don't know if it was emotional or not, but it was the first time for me to play a song that I had written myself in front of a crowd of people.

upstreamI knew it...and then Fuji Rock. When we played at the Red Marquee, it was really one of the best experiences of my life. I had been through a lot in the band up until then, but I got over that and thought about all the things I wanted to do to make a great show. The people around us had prepared for it, and we left while everyone was looking on, and when we came back, they were like, "That was great. That one day was really great. I will never come back.

What is the appeal of being in a band?

upstreamI think: It's something you've never experienced, usually. I think you have to try it to understand.

market (e.g. river)But it's interesting, isn't it? It's exciting.

cherry treeI feel that uncertainty is a major cause of this excitement. It is exciting, thrilling, and thrilling to think hard and create something that you don't know how it will turn out or what the right answer is.

Is there "something" you want to accomplish with your music?

cherry treeI want to exceed the imagination of Jinya and Teruki with the music, songs, and lyrics that I bring to the project. I want the people I work with to think it is good. I think that is the most important thing. That's an extreme story, but if they think it's good, it doesn't matter what other people think. I want to do my best so that people don't think, "Oh, no, he's not good enough!

upstream(Laughs). I am fun. To have fun. I have fun.

cherry treeI also want to be able to express myself in a variety of ways. I would like to increase the number of instruments I can handle, and I would like to deepen and evolve my own expression. I would like to be able to express myself as if I were speaking.

market (e.g. river)I think that's all there is to it. Someday, I want to be able to express all of my thoughts and feelings through sound. I don't know if I will be able to do that before I die. That's why I'm doing music. That's what I want to pursue.
