Yuzo Kato / Unroute Designer

Born in 1964. After working at Masaki Matsushima and Comme des Garçons, joined United Arrows in 2013. He has been involved in the design of original collections for .

Now the face of Unroute. The story behind the birth of the original setup.

I heard that among the original collections of "unroute", the set-up, which has been offered since the beginning, is so popular that many repeat customers keep coming back to it.

Kato.In fact, it was not a set-up at first, but a pair of pants by themselves. They became much more popular than we had expected, so we made a jacket to go with the pants.

These pants were originally planned in response to Director Numata's request for "sporty pants that are easy to wear and easy to move in, but have a sense of tension like proper slacks or dress pants" when launching the original collection. The result is a collection of sporty pants that are easy to wear and easy to move in, yet have the tension of proper slacks or dress pants.

-Can you tell us more about the materials and details of these pants?

Kato. The material is a highly stretchable nylon with a shrunken finish and 61 TP10T polyurethane woven into the fabric. It is true that pants are easier to move in if they are lightweight to some extent, but it is not enough if they are lightweight; they should also have the right weight and thickness to create a beautiful silhouette. We chose this material while taking this balance into consideration. In addition, all materials and sewing are made in Japan.

As for details, it is easy to omit elements when you are conscious of being sporty, but if you omit too much, it becomes tasteless as an outfit. Therefore, we kept the classic details of tailored pants, such as belt loops, pockets, and zippers.

The silhouette is quite tapered and the length is short. The length is short because it looks more beautiful when it stops at the ankles without cushioning.

Kato.I am currently wearing the 2-tuck version. I am currently wearing the 2-tuck version. This one has more room in the armpits, so I recommend the 2-tuck version for those who have a stouter lower body.

-And then he made a jacket to go with the pants.

Kato.Yes: Yes, I did. The use of materials and the basic concept of this trouser follows the concept of this trouser, and the jacket is made of the same material as the trouser, following the classic atmosphere and details of a tailored jacket.

-How is the response from customers?

Kato. The material is wrinkle-free and easy to care for. They are also used by people who sit at a desk a lot or travel a lot.

In fact, it is so popular within the company that I get inquiries from other employees asking, "Do you have that setup? I get inquiries from other employees asking me, "Do you have that setup?

This set-up has been continuously developed as a standard item, and although it looks the same, the pattern and details are slightly revised each season.

Jacket by [unroute] ¥35,000+TAX, Pants by [unroute] No-tuck type and two-tuck type ¥15,000+TAX each

Ideal for the coming season. Lightweight materials are also available.

-What other variations of the Original Collection set-up are available?

Kato.: There are several types, the first one is a polyester 100% type. It is new this season.

Jacket by [unroute] ¥28,000+TAX, Pants by [unroute] ¥13,000+TAX

The silhouette is the same as the standard type, but this one is designed for summer wear. It is lighter and cooler to wear.

And here is another new one for this season. It is a type of cotton 100%.

Jacket by [unroute] ¥26,000+TAX, pants by [unroute] ¥14,000+TAX

A special silicon-coding process gives it a bouncy texture that is hard to believe it is cotton. Rather than being wrinkle-resistant, this material makes wrinkles look rather cool. It is different from just a casual set-up, and has an atmosphere that is typical of "Unroute".
