PROFILE

After working in the apparel industry for more than 20 years, he moved to Globe Ride, attracted by the fact that it was a company that was serious about fun. In the Fishing Division, he is in charge of planning and developing apparel products for Daiwa. Of course, he loves fishing, and his main target is "fish you can eat.
Versatile" is the keyword for this multi-purpose fishing bag.

The three models presented in this collaboration between "POTR" and "Daiwa" are a backpack, a shoulder bag, and a waist bag, each available in two colors, black and khaki. All of them are made of nylon twill with a PVC finish to ensure waterproofness and light weight, making them easy to use both on the fishing grounds and in everyday life.
Before we get into the background of this collaboration, could you first tell us about the newly launched "POTR" label?
Tasaki:Aimed at a younger demographic than Porter, the label offers products that are closely related to lifestyle, such as food, clothing, art, music, sports, and activities, and incorporates these into its manufacturing. We are currently promoting a stronger lifestyle flavor by collaborating with leading brands in various industries prior to our in-line items.
Nakatsu:Actually, Daiwa collaborated with Porter about 10 years ago. At that time, it was a rod case, a geeky product specialized for fishing enthusiasts, so for this item, we wanted to create a product that would fit in with everyday life and appeal to a wider range of people, so we approached them. Daiwa also makes bags for both everyday use and fishing, but they are not well known by people who do not fish. By teaming up with Yoshida Kaban, which is supported by people with a high sense of fashion, I think people will recognize that Daiwa is doing something interesting these days.

I think that as the outdoors has boomed since Corona, the demand for fishing has also increased. From your perspective, do you feel that fishing is booming?
Nakatsu:Thankfully, the fishing population is steadily increasing, especially among beginners who want to start fishing and returners who have been fishing for a while and are starting again. We hope that more and more people will start fishing because they are aware that such bags are available.
Tasaki:The number of people around me who have started fishing has increased, and after Corona, the number of young children, families, and women has increased at fishing spots, and I feel that fishing is becoming an established leisure activity. In terms of apparel, I have the impression that the number of items that incorporate outdoor details has increased, as well as those that incorporate fishing performance and gimmicks. The young kids, women, and people who are attracted to gimmicks related to fishing activities are exactly the kind of people we want to see using these bags, so this was the best timing for us to talk to them.

Nakatsu:There are unexpected things that are incorporated into clothing and bags without being recognized as fishing details. I felt that Yoshida Kaban was the only company that could successfully express these details, so I approached them with a definite idea. What we aimed for with this item was a bag that can be used in everyday life and is also convenient for fishing. Men in particular don't tend to change their bags every day, so we aimed to create a product that can be used in a variety of situations. The technical term for tools that fit various styles of fishing is "versatile," and we have created a bag that is truly versatile.

I understand that not only you, Mr. Nakatsu, but also Mr. Tasaki, are fishermen. Are there any details that you incorporate from your unique perspective as a fishing enthusiast?
Tasaki:I do fish, but I am afraid to proudly say "I love fishing" in front of Daiwa (laughs). (Laughs) However, regardless of my fishing skills, I decided on the shape and function of each bag based on my understanding of fishing.
Nakatsu:I could tell right away from talking with him that he loves fishing, so it was very smooth to catch his opinion.
Tasaki:In deciding on the specifications, we realized that the functions necessary for fishing are actually very useful in everyday life as well. For example, the main body fabric is water-repellent nylon twill with a PVC finish, which protects the luggage not only when fishing but also in the rain. The pockets that can hold rod holders can also be used not only for fishing rods (fishing rods), but also for rain umbrellas, PET bottles, and so on. I think we have created something that is convenient and looks good even when used in the city. In addition, since military elements are mixed in here and there, I think we have created a look that is easy to fit in the city.

The side of the backpack is equipped with a pocket that can also hold a packrod. The daisy chain can be used to attach carabiners to hang small items, and other arrangements can be made.

The shoulder bag has compression straps so you can carry a rod, as you can see, or simply secure outerwear that you take off when it gets hot.

In consideration of use in fishing grounds, resin coil fasteners are used for the fasteners. In addition to being flexible and easy to open and close, it also has the advantage of being rust-resistant.
Nakatsu:For example, the shape of the zipper pull is a military-like part of the bag, but its large size makes it easy to use even with gloves on, and I think we were able to achieve both functionality and appearance. Also, from the viewpoint of a company that manufactures tackle (fishing tackle), I think that the company has eliminated metal fittings as much as possible in order to prevent deterioration due to the tide. Normally, military fasteners are made of aluminum.hard-working toothis used, but in this product, coil fasteners are used to make it lightweight and to make it difficult to chew salt (the salt in seawater causes the fasteners to stick).
Tasaki:We have accumulated knowledge of which parts last longer when used in town, but we incorporated this knowledge into our bags with input from Daiwa when we used them in the ocean and rivers.

A multi-case of about A5 size (20.5 x 14.5 x 4 cm) fits vertically on both sides

The pockets of all bags in this collaboration are the same size as Daiwa's fishing multi-case.

The main compartment of the backpack is spacious enough to fit a laptop computer. Ideal for work use.
Nakatsu:We have decided to create three types of bags, taking into consideration their use for fishing. Each bag is sized to fit Daiwa's multi-case (a box for storing lures, traps, etc.). The shoulder bag can hold two medium-sized cases in its main compartment, and the backpack was designed so that the cases can be inserted into the outside pockets. Although sized with fishing in mind, the backpack is also versatile enough to hold an A4 file or PC.

The waist bag is meticulously designed to fit and be easy to use, even when worn diagonally.
Tasaki:The waist bag is fitted with the strap at a slight angle so that it fits well when worn around the waist for fishing or when slung diagonally as a body bag in the city. This detailed pursuit of user-friendliness is something only Yoshida Kaban can achieve.
