Samsonite Red, an up-and-coming urban bag maker, and his thoughts on bags for daily use.

THE GUIDE HOW TO USE "Samsonite RED"

Samsonite Red, an up-and-coming urban bag brand, and its daily-use bag concept.

Samsonite, a travel bag manufacturer with over 100 years of history, now boasts the largest market share in the world. Samsonite's products have evolved with the times and continue to be loved around the world. Samsonite Red" is a brand of bags for town use that has taken advantage of Samsonite's know-how and adapted it to today's urban conditions. Stylist Yonosuke Kikuchi, who has created a diverse image of men's bags for many magazines, from casual to dress, is asked about the appeal of this brand.

I appreciate it as a stylist because it blends in with my style.

Kikuchi-san, have you known "Samsonite Red" from the very beginning?

Kikuchi.I had been using Samsonite for styling before that, so I had it in my sights. I had been using "Samsonite" in my styling before that, so I had it in my mind. I actually became deeply familiar with Samsonite Red when I was involved in the visual production of the catalog.

What exactly was it that you noticed at that time?

Kikuchi. The basic premise is that "Samsonite" has a strong image of being a traveler, which is also its roots. Because of its long history, it left a strong impression on me. So, at first I thought "Samsonite Red" would be like that, but then I realized that it was designed and functioned more with city use in mind.

Yonosuke Kikuchi
Born in Kanagawa Prefecture in 1979, he became independent in 2004 after studying under Takashi Kumagai in 2000. He has been involved in a wide range of activities, including styling not only men's fashion but also children's fashion.

The product itself showed consideration for urban use, didn't it?

Kikuchi.I felt this strongly about the design that does not interfere with coordination in a good sense. To be more specific, I strongly felt that the design does not interfere with coordination in a good sense, and the choice of materials and capacity are suitable for everyday use. Of course, there are advantages to a bag with a design that makes a statement, but "Samsonite Red" blends naturally with a variety of styles, and as a stylist, I really appreciate that (laughs). (Laughs) In any case, it has a wide range of coordination options and is easy to style. I feel this especially in the "Bias Jack.

Samsonite Red" is a standard collection, isn't it?

Kikuchi.Yes, it is. The idea of using a zip that doubles as a pocket as a symbolic design is also lean and modern. It would be easier to go overboard with design, but I think the balance is well calculated. It is not only design, but also functionality.

What do you mean?

Kikuchi.First of all, the size. Both in terms of capacity and size for ease of use. There are pockets on the inside for dividing the bag into smaller compartments, and the specs are reasonable for daily life, such as not getting tired when carrying it. These are the things that make Samsonite so unique.

There is a sense of security that the function and quality are derived from a well-established company.

You felt that Samsonite and Samsonite Red had something in common, didn't you?

Kikuchi. At first, I thought that because it was a new brand from a long-established manufacturer of high-quality bags, it might be too expensive for young people. But in fact, the bags are well-made and cost-effective, and the designs are basic and uniquely designed, so they can be used by all ages. The brand itself has a long-established reputation for functionality and quality, so I think there is a sense of security.

The coordination you proposed today is actually quite wide-ranging, isn't it?

Kikuchi.I felt this when I actually put it together, and I think this is the beauty of "Samsonite Red," which is not overly flashy. For example, the 3-way model can be used for light business use, so I think it would be very useful for people who don't have many bags to buy early on. I felt this when I used a Samsonite trolley for a photo shoot. The storage, lightness, and even the casters are all very well thought out. Even when I incorporated this into the casual "Samsonite Red," I felt that the core of the trolley was still there. It's urban, and it helps me in my daily life. I think it really plays a supporting role.

Mr. Kikuchi points out how to coordinate "Samsonite Red".

BIAS JACK 2 "3WAY BAG

Bag ¥18,000+TAX (Samsonite Japan)

The 3-way bag itself is versatile and can be worn by anyone or in any situation, so I was conscious of its versatility so that it can be worn both on and off the job. You can also use it as a shoulder bag when you wear sneakers, or as a backpack when you ride your bike.

BIAS JACK 2 "DAY PACK S

Bag ¥14,000+TAX (Samsonite Japan)

I chose this backpack because it is spring and summer and I thought it would be a good idea to add a pattern that would be a point of interest. I chose this backpack because I thought it would be a good idea to add a pattern that would make a point in the spring and summer. To make the chamofla pattern stand out when worn on the back, I kept the clothes clean and simple with a solid color scheme and added shorts and sandals on the feet for a more relaxed look. The image of this backpack is that of an adult who looks good at the beach.

BIAS JACK 2 "BODY BAG

Bag ¥10,000+TAX (Samsonite Japan)

This is a combination of a lightweight tech nylon parka and slim sweatpants. It's a sporty look with a bit of mode. The body bag's almost square shape has a twist to it, and I think it's better balanced by using a monotone color and making it as chic as this. This is an outfit that can be worn for a variety of occasions, from a stroll to a light jog.

BIAS JACK 2 "SHOULDER BAG A4

Bag ¥12,000+TAX (Samsonite Japan)

The large shoulder bag, with plenty of capacity, has a messenger feel to it. The key point is the street feel, which looks good with a graphical long T and denim, pushing a skateboard. The sizing is a bit roomy, and the overall look is casual, but the color scheme itself is subdued so that it doesn't look too loose."
