HOUYHNHNM's & Salomon's summer play tour ♡ vol.4 Yakushima

Salomon is a French-born outdoor brand that covers a wide range of activities including trail running and skiing. In recent years, Salomon has become popular in the fashion and lifestyle scenes, but the true value of its superior functionality can only be realized when used in the field. This project is about using Salomon's shoes and gear to enjoy the summer to the fullest. The title of this project is "HOUYHNHNM's x Salomon's Hands-on Summer Fun Tour. For the fourth installment, we traveled to the World Natural Heritage island of Yakushima with Yuuki Mihara, a TV personality who loves running and mountain climbing!

What is Yakushima like?

So here we are on Yakushima Island!

Yakushima is an island located approximately 60 km south of the southern tip of the Osumi Peninsula in Kagoshima Prefecture. The island was registered as a World Natural Heritage site in 1993 because of its rare natural features, such as Yakushima cedar trees more than 1,000 years old and virgin forests of evergreen shiny-leaved trees. The island is also a mountainous island with many mountains, including eight peaks over 1,800 meters high, including Miyanoura-dake, the highest peak in Kyushu.

There are several ways to get to Yakushima from Tokyo, but this time we chose to fly via Kagoshima. Fly from Haneda Airport to Kagoshima Airport (approximately 1 hour and 50 minutes) and from Kagoshima Airport to Yakushima Airport (approximately 40 minutes). If you leave Tokyo in the morning, you will arrive at Yakushima before noon.
