Portrait of four young men using Burton bags.

Snowboarding is one of the most popular winter sports. Like skateboarding and surfing, snowboarding has many cultural attractions as well as a sporting aspect, and is naturally an important element from a fashion point of view. And Burton has long been a driving force behind the cool and stylish image of snowboarding. Their stylish items fit in well in the city as well as on the mountain. Here are four young people living in Tokyo today wearing Burton bags.

It is perfect for me as I pack a lot of stuff. I feel safe carrying it on my back.

Do you snowboard, Mr. Sugimura?

village along a (large) cedar treeI have never snowboarded.

Interested?

village along a (large) cedar treeI have... , but I'm also told that you seem to do it. Or surfing. I've never done either (laughs). . I just don't do them because I'm afraid of getting hurt. I work as a player, like a dancer or a model, so the thought of not being able to work just because of an injury....

I don't think you have to be that serious about it. But I do like to watch sports, so I go to amazing exhibitions of snowboarders and photographers who take footage of snowboarders.

I like Mr. Fujii of maddog, who also works with Burton, very much. I like Mr. Fujii of maddog, who also works with Burton, a lot. I don't do it myself, but I like watching them (laughs).

Do you usually dance and model at the same time?

village along a (large) cedar treeYes, that's right. Also, I have been working as a press for a boutique called "Cleopatra Fig" since I was 19 years old. I also handle leasing, and I sometimes model for the store, and I stand in the store about twice a week. My role is somewhere in between that of a behind-the-scenes worker and a player.

You're doing a good job with fashion.

village along a (large) cedar treeYes, I do. Last year, I was asked to help with costumes for a movie as a stylist. If there is no stylist on the board for the show I am in, I usually make use of the models' personal belongings, but I sometimes come forward and ask if I can be the stylist myself. I sometimes come forward and ask if I can be the stylist.

Is that at a dance show?

village along a (large) cedar treeNot a dance, but a hair show or something. I like PR work a lot. I don't do fashion or make things, but I organize events because I want to create space as a PR.

I am also doing PR work for a new hotel called "Book and Bed Tokyo. . The cycle of dancing, doing PR work, and taking pictures continues.

When did you start dancing?

village along a (large) cedar treeI have been dancing since I was 13 years old. Since elementary school, I was often scouted for jobs in the entertainment industry, but I was the type of person who really disliked being in front of people. I wanted to change my personality, so I joined the cheerleading club in junior high school.

I hate being in front of people, much less dancing in front of them, and at first I hated it so much (laughs). (laughs) . But as I got into it, the stress of being in front of people started to go away. . That's when I decided to devote myself to cheerleading.

. But if you think about it realistically, the cheerleading scene in Japan is very small. . So, I decided to change to a genre that I could seriously tackle as a career. . And that's how I came across girls' hip-hop.

Did you also fall in love with fashion through this process?

village along a (large) cedar treeYes, I did. But somehow, I never really gravitated toward hip-hop fashion. My mother collected 80's and 90's cassettes, so I was familiar with soul and funk, but .

What did you think of the bag you got to use today?

village along a (large) cedar treeThe backpacks I usually use are usually fashion-oriented, so they are not very solid. Even if it is a large bag, the bag itself is heavy, or the straps break easily. I carry many pairs of shoes for my costumes, and my luggage is heavy....

But Burton's bags are easy to carry, and you don't feel the weight when you carry them, so I thought they would be perfect for someone like me who packs a lot of stuff. They are also sturdy, and I feel secure when I carry them.

What would you like to do in the future?

village along a (large) cedar treeActually, I don't have many clear goals like that. . so I am doing a variety of things. As I continue to work hard on each and every project that I want to do, I hope to expand the range of what I can do.
