Known as an epoch-making wristwatch, Hamilton's "Ventura," the world's first battery-powered wristwatch, was born in 1957 and surprised people with its futuristic form. Richard Arbib, the genius of industrial design, created this form, which has been handed down to the present day, more than 60 years after its birth. Yasuaki Yamazaki

Born in Tokyo, Japan in 1992, he graduated from Teikyo High School and Asia University before joining the Yokohama DeNA BayStars as a first-round draft pick in 2014. After graduating from Teikyo High School and Asia University, he was drafted by the Yokohama DeNA BayStars in the first round of the 2014 draft, and was selected as the closer in his first year. 37 saves, a rookie season record, made him the Rookie of the Year, and he contributed greatly to the gold medal winning team at the Tokyo Olympics in 2009.

Yamazaki:Yes, that's right. I myself like watches, and have a wide range of both foreign and Japanese brands.

Do you get them from older players?

Yamazaki:Yes, that's right. When I won the Rookie of the Year award, Director Daisuke Miura gave me a watch as a congratulatory gift. On the other hand, I sometimes give them to my juniors as congratulations. For us baseball players, the first win or first home run is very memorable. Giving gifts on such occasions is an everyday occurrence.

Do you give a lot of watches as gifts?

Yamazaki:I have given away many watches. I myself feel something romantic about watches. When I go out for a holiday, I feel more relaxed by wearing a watch, and on days when I have an important game to play, I wear my favorite watch as a good luck charm.

How does "Ventura" look in your eyes?

Yamazaki:I thought it was a very easy watch to wear. . I think it is something that can be worn in various situations, regardless of the situation. On the other hand, the shield-shaped face is very impressive, and this design has remained unchanged throughout the years. You can see it when you walk down the street, and I can see why this watch is so popular.

As a baseball player, do you value a sense of time?

Yamazaki:We take our routine very seriously, especially since I am assigned as the closer, so I take a bath and warm myself up until the last minute. Since I don't know when I am going to pitch, I try to relax and not lose my energy. . That is why it is very important for me to spend a certain amount of time and follow a routine.

I think the 2022 season has been a fulfilling year for you , how do you look back on it?

Yamazaki:. Personally, this year was a season of commitment, in which I started from scratch. In that sense, I was fulfilled as an individual and was able to finish the season without losing heart, but as a team, I regret that we finished with a disappointing result. Next season, I will do my best to be even more fulfilled, and I will never forget to challenge myself and, above all, to enjoy baseball.
