The thickness of the arrows to things is almost the same.
The two met on the set of "Kuchibiru ni Uta" (A Song for Your Lips), their first film together. They spent a month and a half shooting on the Goto Islands in Nagasaki Prefecture. The long but fleeting time spent by the eight female cast members in a single room helped to solidify their bond. But why is it that they all said in unison, "I never thought we would become such deep friends.
Tsunematsu:Which one of us called out to you first? I don't remember, but it must have been me, right?
Aoi:That's absolutely true. I'm not the type of person who can talk to you myself (laughs).
Tsunematsu:I played the role of the head of the department, so I felt I had to organize everyone, and I think I was the first one to speak to everyone. Wakana played the role of the conductor, so she was in a different position from me in organizing the group.
Aoi:That was right. Since boys and girls of junior high and high school age were gathered together, I was a bit hesitant at first and couldn't talk at all. I think I was even more nervous because the first thing I did was to practice for the chorus.
Tsunematsu:Everyone is hard at first.
Aoi:Then, when we had just met, Yuri suddenly said, "Let's play Shiritori, in English! Yuri suddenly said, "Let's play Shiritori in English! I thought, "What is this guy, ......, and he's so hard to shiritori with!" I thought.
Tsunematsu:I don't remember that at all (laughs).
Aoi:English Shiritori was too difficult and none of us could do it well, but it must have been a good opportunity to make friends with everyone. So it was thanks to Yuri.
Tsunematsu:Maybe that's how it all started. But I guess a bond has been formed over the course of days.
Aoi:The members of "Lips" still get along with each other regardless of gender and are like lifelong friends.
A few years after the filming of "A Song for Your Lips", Mr. Tsunematsu mentioned in an interview that he was glad to have met Wakana Aoi. In an interview, Tsunematsu mentioned Wakana Aoi as one of the people he was lucky to have met at that time. He followed this up by saying, "We are both very uneven personalities.
Tsunematsu:Wakana and I are now like best friends, but at first I didn't think we would become such good friends.
Aoi:I thought so too. We are opposites, you know.
Tsunematsu:Yeah, the exact opposite. They really are the opposite of each other. Wakana is the type who thinks deeply and in a straight line, and struggles to come to a proper conclusion on her own. On the other hand, I am quite light (laugh). (Laughs.) Even so, I think I've gotten better at thinking deeply than before. That's why I think it's great that you are fighting against yourself to the utmost of your ability in one thing.
Aoi:Well, I'm glad. The first thing I admire about Yuri is her personality. She is good at small talk and can make friends with anyone right away. I don't know what to say to people I meet for the first time, so I envy her. She is a mood maker and brings me together with people from all walks of life.
Tsunematsu:Because of our different personalities, I think we have different good qualities in common. If I had to describe Wakana in one word, I would say she has a strong core.
Aoi:Mm-hmm.
Tsunematsu:There is one trunk in your heart, Wakana. I guess it is because of that that it is difficult to bend it. Right? (Laughs)
Aoi:As you say (laughs).
Tsunematsu:But that's the beauty of Wakana. I'm the type of person who can go along with anyone, so I'm flexible. Wakana is very grounded, so her core strength is her weapon, and I think she is really dignified and wonderful.
Aoi:Yuri is flexible. I think it is because she is so flexible that she can play various roles and fulfill her roles wherever she goes. I admire her flexibility in her private life as well, and the fact that she can get along with anyone so easily.
Tsunematsu:I used to do ballet, so I have a supple body.
Aoi:That's right (laughs). But, you know, as we get older, I think we are becoming more and more alike, don't you?
Tsunematsu:Well, I guess we are getting more alike, or rather, we are getting closer to each other. We understand each other's differences, so there is not a single point where I think, "I want this part to be fixed.
Aoi:I don't think so. We have opposite personalities, but I feel that we share the same sense of scale in what we value. I feel like we want to be happy with things that are close to us, without seeking for something bigger.
Tsunematsu:That's right. We have totally different interests and like different things, but we both have the same passion for what we like. I think our arrows are almost as thick as each other.
Aoi:The arrows are the same thickness? It really is.
Tsunematsu:We are like yin and yang, or warm and cold in color. We are opposites, but I think our colors go well together. It is because of this image that I am pleased to be able to work with Yu Sugiura this time.*Normally, I would have chosen pink and Wakana would have chosen blue, but we reversed the images of each other.
