Two stylists realized that Saturdays New York City is just right.
FRESH FOR FALL.

Two stylists realized,
Saturdays New York City just right.

Saturdays New York City (Saturdays NYC), which opened in SoHo, New York in 2009, celebrates its 15th anniversary this year. How does Saturdays New York City, which has matured over the past 15 years, look in the eyes of stylists? We invited Daisuke Araki and Haruki Uchiyama to show us two coordinated looks using their favorite items from the new fall collection. What we found out was the great receptiveness of "Saturdays New York City".

High fashion in roughness.

PROFILE

Daisuke Araki
stylist

Born in 1976. Born in Gunma Prefecture. Studied under stylist Takashi Kumagai and became independent in 2001. He has worked on a wide range of styling projects for fashion media, brand lookbooks, actors, and artists. His coordination with a contemporary air is highly trusted by the fashion industry.

-What kind of image do you have of Saturdays New York City?

Araki: I knew the brand from "Saturdays Surf New York City" before it was established and before it changed its name to "Saturdays Surf New York City," before it landed in Japan. At the time, I had the image of a New York surf brand, but now I have a more city-like impression of the brand. You have a lineup of modern and casual items.

-The brand is not only about surfing, but also about a total lifestyle.

Araki: It has become seen as a fashion brand rather than a surf brand, and especially in the last few years, it has a modern image. I haven't been able to visit the store recently, but it's been a while since I tried on some of the new pieces and they were much better than I had imagined. The choice of materials and patterns were good, and when I tried them on, I could understand their quality even more.

-What are some of the items that have left a lasting impression on you so far?

Araki: The T-shirts and sweatshirts were simple and easy to use. I also wear board shorts from "Saturdays New York City" as loungewear in the summer. I feel comfortable in them.

-It gives the impression of being easy to use for coordination.

Araki: Also, they are casual, but the design is clever and doesn't give off too much of an off-duty feel. I was also impressed by the fact that the clothes were rough, but still fashionable, and I think that is still the case today.

-What do you think of our new fall lineup?

Araki: Many of the items are easy to pick up. Denim jackets are easy to wear, and shirts are well balanced in width and length.

-The denim series is being released for the first time in four years.

Araki: I like denim jackets and have several, but I have no complaints about the finish. The color fading is not overdone, just a nice salty indigo.

The shape is not too eccentric, and I think it can be worn without hesitation. When I tried it on, I found it to be perfect for my current mood, with just the right color, looseness, and sense of comfort.

-What do you pay attention to when choosing your daily clothes?

Araki: I dare say it's the feel of the fabric. As I get older, I don't necessarily want to wear high-end clothes, but I am conscious of avoiding cheap ones. I don't touch anything with low quality materials or sewing. Somehow, I think that is my current standard.

-In that light, what do you think of Saturdays New York City?

Araki: Of course it is an option. The fabrics are nice and the patterns are good. It is a brand you can choose with confidence.
