The brand was originally founded when the Fila family, who originally ran a woodworking business, switched to the textile business when they were contracted to repair textile equipment and saw the potential for the market.

In 1926, the company began manufacturing underwear made of fine wool, which became popular for its texture and elasticity.

In 1973, the company began manufacturing sportswear, taking advantage of its expertise in underwear production. Around the same time, the iconic "F-BOX" logo was created.

The following year, the company launched a tennis line.
