"AI," "coffee professional," and "drinkable library." Just those three keywords together already make me quite curious about the NEC-owned Coffee Bean Specialists' "Yanaka Coffee ShopThe concept of this coffee, which is released by the "Coffee" brand, is quite far-fetched, but the commitment to the product is very serious. In the end, I just can't resist the urge to try it.
First, here is the product development process.
NEC's data scientists created training data by converting more than 10,000 review sentences about literary works (post-reading impression) into coffee taste indexes (bitterness/sweetness/lingering/clearness/drinking experience).
Training data is fed into NEC's state-of-the-art AI software to create analytical models.
The analytical model was used to analyze the review texts of six masterpieces of literature, and a radar chart of taste indicators was created for each work.
Using the radar chart as a recipe, cup testers at Yanaka Coffee Shop devised and developed six different coffee blends.
The AI and the professionals on the coffee trail, of course, but the first step is to convert the reading into a taste index. I feel this process is pretty much the heart of this product.
The literary masterpieces covered include "Wakana Shu" by Shimazaki Toson, "Ningen Shikkaku" by Dazai Osamu, "Maihime" by Mori Ogai, and "I am a Cat," "Kokoro," and "Sanshiro" by Natsume Soseki. For example, "Sanshiro," a story about a young man who comes to Tokyo from the countryside and falls in love, has a sweet and sour taste. The taste is guided by precise calculation and high technical skill, but simply put, this is how it translates.
