First introduced in 1912, the “Tochu”—a timepiece known only to connoisseurs—is a watch that’s once again capturing people’s attention.
It’s still fresh in our memories how the “Cartier Prive” collection made headlines in 2024. “Cartier Prive” is a collection that pays homage to the brand’s archives, and the “Tortue” was selected as the eighth model in the series, following the “Crash” and “Tank S’entre.”
The fact that it has been loved for over 100 years is entirely due to its silhouette. True to its name—which means “turtle” in French—its rounded silhouette, reminiscent of a turtle’s shell, is the epitome of elegance.
This new release features a polished yellow gold finish that undeniably accentuates the beauty of its glamorous silhouette. The black patent alligator strap also plays a supporting role that’s not to be missed.
The octagonal crown is topped with a sapphire.
At the end of the alligator strap is a yellow gold buckle.
It looks beautiful from the side, too. The case is 7.2 mm thick.
Turning our attention to the details, while retaining the Roman numerals so beloved by the Maison, the dial has been updated from a guilloché pattern to a stamped motif, and the railway-style minute track has been replaced with a single line of dots. The Cartier secret sign is incorporated within the “X” on the dial.
In a nutshell, the new “Tochu” could be described as a timepiece that redefines elegance. With classic dress watches currently enjoying a resurgence, this launch is truly well-timed.
Despite its compact case dimensions of 33.4 × 26.7 mm, it exudes a strong presence.
