Series: “Dream Pieces” No. 475: Moncler’s “Karakorum”—the companion on the first ascent of K2—has been refined.

"Moncler Reicons" revives iconic Moncler (MONCLER) masterpieces using modern technology.

Starting with “Maya” in 2022, “Karakorum” was added to the lineup in 2023, followed by “Verona” in 2024.

Following its inclusion in the 2023 lineup, “Karakorum” returns this year. This is the down jacket that Achille Compagnoni and Lino Lacedelli relied on when they tackled K2, the world’s second-highest peak after Everest. It was first introduced in 1954.

K2, where one in four climbers never returned, eventually came to be known as the “Merciless Mountain.” Achille and Rino were the first in the world to conquer that mountain. The “K” in K2 stands for the Karakoram Range, of which K2 is a part. The model name was derived from this. The “2” refers to its survey number.

The body is made of green-dyed 10-denier micro-ripstop fabric, reminiscent of the deep green of summer leaves glistening with morning dew. The lining is made from a recycled material suitable for all seasons. It features built-in shoulder straps that allow the jacket to be worn as a backpack. A detachable hood, snap closures, and concealed zippers round out the design.

The rooster logo, now updated with a dome-shaped enamel metal piece, and the labels featuring vintage photos and comics printed on the placket are simply irresistible.

While preserving instantly recognizable heritage elements—such as the diagonally placed double buttons—the reimagined “Karakorum” has turned a new page, making it a model truly worthy of the title “re-icon.”
