The concept of the brand is to "modernize traditional crafts with humorous designs," and both Kazuyuki and Miyako Yamada are involved in the production of these accessories.
Enameling, or cloisonne enameling itself, is a traditional craft technique that is said to date back to BC, but I designed and handcrafted each piece with the idea of creating accessories that people would want to wear casually without being too formal.
And now, we are pleased to announce that the Shoin Shrine's cultural hub bookstore, "nostos booksThe exhibition will be held at The theme is "Love and Theft". It is taken from Bob Dylan's album title "Love and Theft". The literal translation is "Love and Theft," which means homage, tribute, and sampling.
To put it bluntly, they are just "cute! But more than that, I sense a deep love and respect for the culture in MED's accessories. Otherwise, this kind of homage would not be possible. In addition, the selection of photographs used as backgrounds for the accessories is superb.
This year's event will also feature the simultaneous launch of "Hotate-land," a line created in collaboration with Hato Hotate, an illustrator also based in Sapporo.
A genuine collaboration, creating an enamel brooch based on an illustration of a pigeon scallop. There could not be a more compatible collaboration. The work had already been unveiled at an event in Sapporo, but this is the first time for a solo exhibition to be held in Tokyo.
As mentioned above, all MED accessories are handmade, so even if the same item is created, there will be subtle individual differences. Strictly speaking, they are one-of-a-kind. Wouldn't they be super cute casually attached to a cap, bag, or shirt?
