WED STORE" is a store in Shimokitazawa that will celebrate its 5th anniversary this August. Mr. Hara spoke to us about the unique stance of the shop, which is not simply called a secondhand clothing store.
When we started, there were no stores that offered a mix of new and used clothing. We were like wearing used clothes in a street style. At the time, people used to say we were halfway there (laughs).
The store is filled with clean, authentic items purchased in the United States. Sneakers from Vans, caps from Stussy, and clothing from American brands are lined up, but they are different from what you might call "vintage American casual" and have a refined, relaxed feel to them.
WED STORE" is a collection of items that I like and that I find interesting in the U.S. at the time. I like clothes that can be worn by normal people, so I tend to have simple items that people can wear. These are things that we like in real life."
I see. Perhaps people are attracted to this unconventional but reasonable stance. The eye-catching orange bandana is "SBQ Bandana," a collaboration with Mr. Goro of "Minnano. The old-fashioned interaction between people in the shopping arcade is also attractive, as if the interaction between neighbors is directly reflected in the production of the products.
I feel that the Setagaya area, including Goro's, or at least this area in general, is becoming more and more exciting. I think it's great that small stores are doing what they want to do. I myself shop at such stores.
