By way of introduction, an intro to the gallery is provided below.

Why does Yoshihiko Ueda continue to photograph forests? What makes him shoot forests?
Ueda, who has been confronting the cycle of life with his whole heart and soul for 30 years, has created a fresh and sublime forest. When we confront the forest that lives through the filter of Ueda's eyes and memories, we naturally find the answer to our question.

In 1989, I first encountered the sacred forest of Quinault, Washington, and in 2011, after witnessing the destruction of all life caused by nature's fury in the Great East Japan Earthquake, I began photographing the forests of Yakushima as if to confirm the origin of life. In 2017, he took new photographs of Quinault, the forests of Yakushima, and the virgin forests of Kasuga Taisha Shrine in Nara. This exhibition will feature approximately 50 works from 1989 to the latest works in 2017, which represent approximately 30 years of photographing the forests that reveal the primordial providence of all living things. In conjunction with this exhibition, Seigensha will publish a photo book "FOREST: Impression and Memory 1989-2017".

If you have been to Gallery 916 before, this exhibition is for you as a farewell, and if you have never been to Gallery 916, it would be a shame not to experience this space. We recommend that you spend plenty of time there.
