How many people know every detail about "Ivy" and "American Tigers"?
Once you are attracted to something, you are drawn to it. The brand was born last year.ROWING BLAZERSJack Carlson, the founder of the "Bamboo" brand, was one of those who were fascinated by this world.
In this issue of 【Focus It., a series in which HOUYHNHNM's editors pick up things that interest them, we sneak into a talk show that gave us a clue to the rising star of the Ivy League, Rowing Blazers.

The event was held at BEAMS PLUS Yurakucho, the venue for the event. The speakers were Jack Carlson and the U.S.-based "The New Yorker," which was released in 2015 and became a hot topic in the U.S.AMETORA The Story of How Japan Saved American StyleDavid Marks, author of the book "Rowing Blazers," and we've rounded up the history of the Ivy and "Rowing Blazers" as it emerged from their conversation.

The designer, Jack, was a member of the U.S. rowing team when he was a student and won an international competition. He also has a unique background as an archaeologist. His love for archaeology led him to publish his book "Rowing Blazers," which became the name of his brand, and last year he started his own brand, "Rowing Blazers.

The book "ROWING BLAZERS" created by Jack
The red jacket on the cover is from the Lady Margaret Boat Club, a traditional Cambridge University rowing club,
The word "blazer" was coined from "blaze = burning," in reference to this bright red fiery colored jacket .
Rowing" is a word that may not be familiar to many, but it means boat races and regattas. Jack says that rowing is the origin of the blazer, which everyone in the world has come into contact with, as well as of the American tiger and the Ivy.
. blazers originally originated as the uniforms worn by college rowing teams. Navy blazers were the standard, but back then they were often brightly colored so that spectators could identify the team they were cheering for."
Next was David. "My sister's boyfriend was a rower, and when I wore a T-shirt he gave me to a college party, I ran into a real player who warned me, 'Who are you?' . That's how much pride they take in their uniforms."

At the beginning of the 19th century, blazers were worn casually as a sweatshirt or outerwear sense except on the water . Then the culture of rowing was added, and the value of the blazer as a symbol of status rose rapidly.
. and gradually people began to use the term blazer to refer to other rowers, and to imitate and wear it. . and over time this led to the Ivy boom that began in the 1960s."

I see . The "Ivy" movement is indeed derived from rowing, isn't it? Then the agenda turns to the launch of the brand.
In creating the book "ROWING BLAZERS," I came into contact with blazer details and fabrics from all over the world and felt the essence of "this is what a blazer is! I felt the essence of what a blazer is. But nowadays, there are few places that make blazers with a respect for history. I felt sad to see the blazers being sold at discount stores with ribbons slapped on them in the world of rowing and the Ivy League. So I decided to start my own brand to help revive and enliven that culture."

BEAMS PLUS has made a special order for this blazer.
The brand's main belief is to be authentic . . and to be faithful to the details of the authentic blazers I have seen. . All items are produced in New York, where the brand is based. . because we want to create authentic products while communicating closely with the makers."
. Now, thanks in part to the publication of a book and word of mouth, they are producing items for Cambridge University, Yale University, and even the U.S. national rowing team. Considering that the brand has only been in business for about a year, it is easy to see how much trust there is in Rowing Blazers' creations.

The faucet motif on the cap is said to be from a necktie given to those who succeeded in a challenge to break into a women's college bathroom and take a bath. Another key point of this brand is that it plays on history.

The culture of shaving a new shirt with a file to make it look worn was widespread among students at that time. . This item is a faithful reproduction of that detail.
Ivy and American style may be a bit on the downswing right now, but after seeing the trends in Japan, the home country of America has begun to rediscover the splendor of its own culture. Rowing Blazers is a brand for a new era born out of the loop of the times. David concluded.
The "Rowing Blazer" brand, which was created by learning the origins of the Ivy from scratch and backed by immeasurable knowledge and passion, must be the "real thing. If you actually touch it with your hands, you will immediately notice the depth of the brand.

The pop-up store at BEAMS PLUS Yurakucho will be open until February 25 (Sun.). Please visit the store to see for yourself.
