Their simple designs and highly functional bags are loved by many people. Jamie Cormack, the founder of Herschel Supply, came to our company to talk about the brand and its future prospects.

-How did you start Herschel Supply?

Jamie.Herschel Supply is a brand that my brother Lyndon and I started together. We have a very similar way of thinking, and since we share the same hobbies of sports, travel, and fashion, we decided to start the brand together. We both especially love to travel, so we wanted to focus on bags that are essential for that.

-What is the division of roles between the two of you?

Jamie.I am the creative part and the storyteller of the brand. Lyndon is a great communicator and a good salesman, so he plays a diplomatic role. It's a good balance (laughs).

-What do you refer to in creating your products?

Jamie. We are always on the lookout for things that we can sense from our travels to various regions. We try to incorporate the things we encounter on these trips into our collections through our own filter. In particular, we always visit New York and Los Angeles, and we often go to London, Japan, and Hong Kong. We always try to visit a new place at least once a year.

-Is there anything you always bring with you when you travel?

Jamie.: This is what the items in my bag look like. I carry a passport case and a pen under my skin. The navy and red plug converters are designed to be used at any outlet in any country. My Leica film camera is for black-and-white photography, and I use it separately from my iPhone camera. His sunglasses are from UNCROWD, and he also wears glasses from the same brand.

-Why did you come to Japan this time?

Jamie.I am here in Japan because our flagship store recently opened in Seoul, Korea, and we are planning to open a store in Shibuya in May. It will be located along Meiji-dori, so I hope you will come and visit.

-You seem to be focusing on Asia. How do you see the Asian fashion scene and the Japanese fashion scene?

Jamie. The fashion scene in Asia is gradually losing its boundaries and becoming flatter and flatter. The fashion scene in Asia is gradually losing its barriers and becoming flat. Among these, I think that Japanese people are very sensitive to fashion and are always at the forefront of the Asian fashion scene. I feel that the basis for this is Japan's unique culture, which is firmly rooted and linked to each other, supporting the scene.

-What are your plans for the future in Japan?

Jamie.I am very excited about the upcoming event called "LOVE&GUTS" in May this year, which is dedicated to skate culture and art. I originally skated, and when I first started my brand, I was allowed to put my items in skate stores, so I have a strong passion for skateboarding. So this time, I wanted to support the skate scene.

You also collaborated with the long-established skate company "Independent," didn't you?

Jamie.I was very happy to be able to collaborate with Lyndon. Lyndon used to work as a rep for NHS, the company that Independent used to work for, so we were able to collaborate smoothly. Of course, I am also a fan of "Independent.

-What exactly is the "LOVE&GUTS" event?

Jamie.: We will have an exhibit of artwork by legendary skaters such as Pat Noho, Steve Olson, and Lance Mountain at a gallery in Harajuku. After that, we plan to hold an event with them at a skate pool in Shizunami, Shizuoka, Japan.

-Finally, what is your outlook for the future?

Jamie. We will open a flagship store in Shibuya in May, and we would like to make a strong approach to Japanese users there. We would like to further strengthen our global expansion as stores will open one after another in Vancouver and other countries in the future.
